The Palladium opened in 1940. A developer has the OK from the city to restore the historic venue and construct a pair of residential towers with more than 700 apartments right next to it on Sunset Boulevard.
Born in 1940 as a music venue for Big Bands, it was, for some time, the epicenter of Hollywood nightlife. It went on to host political rallies, high school proms, rock ‘n’ roll bands, and awards shows.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is suing the city for approving the mixed-use Palladium Residences project going up across the street. The organization maintains it's a prime example of the kind of project it aims to stop with a ballot initiative.
