Silver Lake Will Vote Tonight on Whether or Not it's the Eastside
@troll: No, not really. Those who think of Silver Lake as "Eastside" are, typically, from West Los Angeles/Beverly Hills. They tend to think of anything East of the Beverly Hills border as Eastside. That doesn’t make them correct.
Silver Lake is simply trying to correct a misconception, and that they are, in fact, part of central Los Angeles.
See What a Good Flip Can Do: Waverly Drive Example
ANY turn key home in Silver Lake is going to be in offer in days. It seems EVERYONE wants to live the Silver Lake life and to be a part of the movement. There so few turn key offerings the rare examples are simply too desirable to linger, almost no matter the asking. This home had the added benefit of a professional designer reimagining before being put to market.
Duplex with Spanish-style flair asking $1.3M in Atwater Village
Atwater is turning into quite the little gem of a neighborhood. Those who looking but are hesitant should know that, and also know that Atwater folks integrate rather seamlessly with Silver Lake people and the Silver Lake lifestyle in general these days. There simply isn’t the culture divide that once existed. In fact we met (and are still friends with) several Atwater families when our children were at Camelot Kids together.
I live without a car in Silver Lake. I can walk to the post office in Los Feliz easily. The grocery store, restaurants, book shops, clothing stores, pilates studio, dog grooming, dog park, movie theater, a bajillion coffee shops…of course it would be nice if Los Feliz/Silver Lake/Echo Park were in more of a circular arrangement and not a straight line…but there’s nothing I can do about that.
Trends in Marketing: Making Silver Lake Look Very Bright
This is EXACTLY what those of us who are part of the Silver Lake COMMUNITY are fighting to keep our little part of the world from becoming. Scary stuff now that Silver Lake has become such a beacon neighborhood but we are a determined bunch and we care too much. We’ve got to get rid of the electric billboard for symbolic reasons if anything.
@STARCHY:
Well those certain demographics are ignorant. Why do you think Metro called the Gold Line extension the "Eastside Extension"? It is NOWHERE near Silver Lake. As someone who was born and raised in the real eastside, I will continue to laugh at all the westside/east coast transplant idiots who continue to call Silver Lake the "eastside."
@Westcork: Silver Lake and Venice are good examples. Echo Park is sort of stuck in mid-gentrification. Density seems to be what bogs down gentrification, as more people need to be displaced for it to progress to completion. Neighborhoods that are less dense need less turnover, plus places that gentrify later tend to be populated with residents displaced from earlier gentrification. That’s why Silver Lake gentrified much more completely than Echo Park.
