LA has built 45 shelter beds for the homeless—its goal is 1,500
A holding pen for the homeless in a place with no jobs and no services isn’t as valuable as more diffuse shelters in the places where there could be jobs and services.
Not that its likely a homeless person will wind up living and working in Brentwood, but having shelters right next to the VA is a great way to utilize all sorts of services.
Brentwood, Malibu, or even Tarzana? Privileged much?
Culver City started out as a working-class neighborhood for studio employees—thus the house ages and sizes. It’s shifted over the years due to its Westside location, so that it’s a long way from its roots.
Still, while this does look like a bargain for the Westside lately, it’s an awful lot of money. I’m glad we looked and bought elsewhere.
PriceChopper: Pacific Palisades Condo Going Down, Down, Down
Ms. Gluck, IMPORTANT edit! This condo is NOT 871 square feet-it’s over 1300. And it should sell for close to it’s 2007 price unless HOA’s are ridiculous. Also Curbed cynics-don’t use a Hollywood metric on cost per square feet. Look instead at how expensive Brentwood condos are priced. if this place does indeed sell in the lower 600’s it’s a major, major bear item for Westside values.
New Apartment Tour Continues: West LA's West Wilshire Towers
This building is taller than the area is zoned for, so I suspect it was given a density ‘bonus’ since it is on a major bus route. The question is, what would stop any other developer from building a bunch of 6 floor Florsheim shoe boxes likes this and block out any views of people living north of Wilshire in the Brentwood flats?
And you know what? That mistake about Cukor’s house being in Brentwood — or the ludicrous rainbow pool notion — really irks me. Seems to me if you’re gonna throw knowledge out there that you think is something people REALLY need to know, and present it as serious, you better make damn sure you get your facts…er, straight.
ConstructionWatch: Culver City's Fox Hills Pummeled
The Jefferson/Overland Target is, indeed, ridiculously overcrowded. I wouldn’t be surprised if they close it, in the expectation that the crowd coming there from the north (Palms, downtown Culver, Rancho Park/Westwood, etc.) will instead go to the Rodeo/La Cienega Target that is currently under renovation.
Target could make a killing if it opened a location on West Olympic, or even better on Wilshire in Brentwood/WLA or Santa Monica.
Rumblings & Bumblings: Sony Studios Construction, Empty Lot on Venice, Hollywood Gentrification and a Pasadena Development
so true number 9. who in LA doesn’t prefer fecal ocean water, bad hippie art, the homeless, overcast weather, and those lovely SM/Venice poseur residents with slightly less authenticity than a Brentwood mom’s tit job. in fact, i think there should be a border, with guards, to stamp the ‘west of lincolners’ passport DOUCHEBAG every time they venture out of their comfort zone.
Judy Garland's Old Hollywood Regency Going to Sheriff's Sale
This house has a sad history, in the Judy legend. I remember hearing stories from the neighborhood kids (I lived a few blocks away in my teen years) that Liza was always left alone here, (or with Lorna) with like nothing to eat for days at a time. Great lot, though…and to this day, Phyllis Diller lives five doors down in one of the best houses in Brentwood. No relation to Barry, LOL.
The House That Death in Venice Built in Pacific Palisades
I think they used to have chamber music concerts here at times. It was part of the ‘Little Wiemer’ part of Brentwood. I always wanted to go but it was expensive and I’m not a big fan of chamber music. If it was jazz I would have spent the money. Maybe I’ll go sit on the curb there and read Mann’s best book, in my opinion, The Magic Mountain.
