"Enhanced" Wallace Neff in Beverly Hills for $18 Million
Enhanced! I’ll say. Makes me really wonder why these people were even attracted to the Wallace Neff house when what they really wanted was Wallace Fontainebleau. Yikes! Grafting on an entrance…well I’ll be damned, didn’t know you could do such a thing. The interior makes me dizzy but I did notice that every detail of Neff was removed through the "enhancement". Cosmetic surgery for houses can go downhill jut as for humans. Next time folks maybe try hiring and architect with knowledge and an interior designer with sense.
I greatly admire Wallace Neff and the way his practice evolved over time. He also was committed to expiremental architecture which might be utilized to provide affordable housing here in the U.S. and in 3rd World countries. He was trying to master the architecture of the mid-century towards the end of his life but never quite got there…a valiant effort, nonetheless.
@guest #9: One tiny correction: This home is on Loma Linda, a shortish cul-de-sac off Coldwater; Loma Vista is one of the main drives in Trousdale Estates.
AWESOME plush modern Wallace Neff at the end of Loma Linda, btw; built in the 50s for the Factor family. Still in realtively original shape, it appears.
Los Angeles's Biggest House Is Under Construction In Bel Air
@Emma: Emma, are you sure? What is it that you like and what is better compared with The Manor?
@ArchiSavant: I adore it, too! Wallace Neff took the example of Villa Giulia and made something spectacular. I do, however, slightly prefer the younger Bell’s estate, George Washington Smith’s the Kern estate.
The Wallace Neff House That Howard Hughes Crashed His Plane Into Is Set to Be Demolished
Look time moves on yet some things are timeless. Homes like these will stand the test of time. There is no question on this particular property the city of BEVERLYHILLS better step in. Wallace Neff is a historical treasure to Los Angeles and this home is in near mint condition as an example. I believer in owner rights but that does not necessarily make ones actions right. this buyer is shameful.
The Wallace Neff House That Howard Hughes Crashed His Plane Into Is Set to Be Demolished
What a travesty if the city of Beverly Hills approves a teardown of this beautiful and historic home. I don’t understand why the city has historic preservation ordinance if it doesn’t enforce it. Here’s a gorgeous home in what likes like mint condition (from the photos)designed by such a noted and talented architect as Wallace Neff. I guess there’s no accounting for taste no matter how wealthy you are, and Beverly Hills seems to agree with this philosophy.
Kitschy "Fiesta-Ready" Pad in the Hills Asking $1.9 Million
This house is a tasteless rendition of a psuedo combination Mission Revival/Mediterrean Revival/Spanish Colonial house. Both the architecture and interior design are an affront to good taste. If you want to see a well designed Spanish Colonial, Mediterrean Revival or Mission Revival house, go see the works of George Washington Smith, Lutah Maria Riggs, Wallace Neff, some Gordon Kauffmann and early Cliff May houses; albeit early Cliff May house were more in the Spanish Colonial Ranch style.
Purported Marion Davies Cottage with Greenhouse in Beverly Hills
What about Davies Way in Laurel Canyon? It’s a narrow, hillside public street now, but it was originally Marion Davies’ long driveway, according to local lore. At the top of Davies Way is a wonderful Wallace Neff-style home, supposedly built for Davies by Hearst in the twenties, before the Bungalow Land lots on Stanley Hills Drive were developed . I think it’s 2035 Davies Way. The house is called Bird Wing. Actress Katherine Helmond lives there now.
