ListingsWire: New Italian Alpine Villa, Cheviot Hills Guest House, West Hollywood Condo
Sorry, CoD, but that house in La Crescenta is neat.
I know a number of people who are from there and LCF. There’s a Mormon chapel on Foothill, right where the 2 Freeway ends, that is built in the style of an Alpine ski chalet; if the church ever decides to sell it, I swear I’m going to buy it and turn it into a concert venue.
Architect's 1965 Glendale Time Capsule For Sale For First Time
Love this place! A friend bought a house in Eagle Rock in 2000 that was a time capsule. He’s kept the rotary phone and original details intact. This place reminds me of my childhood, growing up in La Crescenta. The roads are better in Glendale than L.A., not to mention the schools. And then there’s Montrose & Descanso Gardens nearby. Eagle Rock is a stone’s throw. Love this place!
Chinoiseried Mid-Century by Unsung La Cañada Architect
@Ham:
Before the cities were incorporated, the whole area was known as "La Cañada", from the original 1843 land grant to Ygnacio Coronel, known as "Rancho La Cañada."
Coronel originally named the property "La Cañada Atras de Rancho Los Verdugos" ("the Canyon Behind the Verdugo Rancho"). Julio Verdugo was not amused, claiming the property was part of his father Jose Maria Verdugo’s Rancho San Rafael grant.
His claim did not prevail, though he did end up owning the land (along with his sister Catalina) after he traded the portion of Rancho San Rafael that is today’s Burbank for it.
I’ve seen some locals refer to it as the Crescenta-Cañada Valley,as well as just Crescenta Valley.
"Crescenta" was a name coined ca.1881 by Benjamin Briggs, an early subdivider. The US Post Office added "La" to the post office name in 1888, making it "La Crescenta", to avoid confusion with Crescent City.
Despite the USPO, "Crescenta" is not actually a Spanish word. :-)
As a moderate Democrat who lives in Los Angeles and was a Curbed LA reader since 2014 I would have appreciated being given the opportunity to respond to you. What I would have said was that I know for a fact that progressives (like Alissa Walker) hate the suburbs and the freeways that come with it and I challenge your argument that progressives don’t want to upzone single family neighborhoods and build denser housing to support livable streets. That is literally what I read on Curbed LA for years and years.
Harlem Brownstone With Ornate Fireplaces and Soapstone Counters Asks $4.65M
I love the woodwork, La Cornue range and potential of the backyard. The asking price is wildly optimistic. In this market I don’t see this selling for more than $3.5 million.
Plans For "LA's French Quarter" Between South Park and FiDi
@guest #53: EXACTLEY, More metro will take people off the freeways to LA.LIVE, Echo park, Glendale, Highland park, all these places need metro, not buses, trains, if they want to get people out of their cars. I live in La Crescenta, and believe me if I had a lightrail close to me I WILL take it to l.a. live, but since I don’t I’m forced to drive. So the biggest investment AEG can do is towards METRO.
