When Ray Kroc struck it rich with McDonald's, one of his first purchases was the J & R Double Arch Ranch on California's Central Coast. There, he hosted parties, food experiments, and—strangely enough—health conferences.
The enormous Hotel Arcadia, built on a low seaside bluff in the 1880s, was Santa Monica’s first grand hotel. Over the years it was the site of fabulous parties, nasty scandals, and a murder attempt by one of Los Angeles's most prominent citizens.
The sprawling exhibition features an array of visual installations, including Doug Aitken’s cool mirror-covered house and an actual underground bunker.
