Bridge to Brentwood Ferrari/Maserati Garage Threatened
seems to me the case hinges on this:
"At Wednesday evening’s commission session, (the neighbors) argued that the city approved the bridge only after being told that the top-floor garage was necessary for Schubert to comply with city off-street parking rules.
In reality, Schubert had ample parking space near a three-car garage that he demolished in order to make room for the remodel, said Victor de la Cruz, a lawyer for neighbor William Burnside."
if the above accusation is true, the neighbors have a point.
Touring the Restored Dry Falls Mid-Century Alexander House
@guest #10: Are you sure you’re referring to the right house? This house was amazing. The three individual cabanas were designed by William Krisel (the same architect that designed the main house and probably the house you think is so great across the street). The furnishings are original, vintage mid-century including a number of pieces by Eames. Eames was famous for using plywood. Sorry guest #10 you’re ignorance is showing…you have no taste.

Geez, Repuplicans need a coffee director!
(March 20, 1960 LA Times excerpt) GOP Women to Hear Talk on Russia
….The speaker, who recently returned from Russia, has entitled her talk "The Bear in the Gray Flannel Suit." Mrs. Robert Ringle, chairman, will preside at the meeting in the home of Mrs. William C. Rockwell Jr., 1066 Charles St. Coffee will be served under the direction of Mrs. Leonard Jenson. Reservations should be made through Republican headquarters.
"The Gabrielino Indians of the San Gabriel Valley lived simple lives, hunting, fishing, and harvesting the bounty of the rich land" p.8 (The San Gabriel Valley, by William King).
There are also many history books about the native local Indians as written by the Spaniards and early American settlers around the SoCal area. From the Chumash to the Tongva, these Indians lived off the land. I’m not saying we had forests here, all I am saying is that with urban and (especially) suburban development (sprawl), vegetation and plant life has dwindled here, including trees.
Classy Mid-Century Above the Boulevard in Los Feliz
Sure you have the right architect?
A little internet research seems to indicate William T. Dreiss was a landscape architect and practiced in San Diego from at least 1957 forward.
I think whoever designed it was aware of Harwell Hamilton Harris’s work. A number of subtle details bear his influence….the exposed outriggers, the hipped ceiling in the living room, the way the windows are grouped and the countiuous line that wraps around the interiors at header height.
I strongly believe that restoration of William Pereira’s 1965 campus merits serious consideration, and have produced (with Alan Hess and Richard Schave) much more material around this idea than can be telegraphed in a comment. See http://esotouric.com/pereira if you’re curious. But the insistence on spanning Wilshire Boulevard, rendering a valuable County-owned vacant lot unusable as a museum-benefiting income property while wrecking a beautiful view, is just nuts. There’s no good reason to do it except to prove they can.
