Los Angeles Housing Now More Screwed Up Than San Francisco
@LAifer: You undoubtedly were not here in the 1970’s when people were fleeing Los Angeles to live in the suburbs. You couldn’t give a house in Hancock Park away! Woodland Hills was the first hot area everybody wanted to be. Why would our City make the decision to upgrade existing infrastructure when their were no demands being put on it! The money was spent on the new areas. It was a bad decision, but correct in the situation.
Is Traffic Really Getting Worse on the Westside of Los Angeles?
TRAFFIC IS WORSE -period. It can take 45 to 60 minutes just to get from Bundy to the 405 using Wilshire, Sunset, Santa Monica Blvd or Olympic. I’ve been commuting from the valley to the west-side for over 25-years and I’m at the breaking point. And for you assholes who say take public transportation, just tell me how to get from Woodland Hills to the west-side using public transportation in under 2 1/2 hours.
@DZINEOCRAT: I’m hesitant to say ’cause the Pabst impostor will soon be playing the solo from 25 or 6 to 4.
Coincidentally though, within the motif of this thread, it’s none other than the late Terry Kath of the band originally named the Chicago Transit Authority.
Kath of course being infamous as a Darwin Award winner for accidentally shooting himself to death in Woodland Hills. His last words as he placed the gun to his temple, "don’t worry it’s not loaded."
Fallopia: I don’t think it’s fair for someone who lives, say, in Lincoln Heights and wants to take the train to the Convention Center to have to pay three fares (Gold, Red and Blue), while someone who lives in Downtown Long Beach only has to pay one.
There’s cheaper housing farther out, and higher transportation and energy costs have to be factored into one’s budget before one moves out to Woodland Hills, Norwalk or Glendora. As it stands now, you essentially have city dwellers (poor, middle-income and rich) unduly subsidizing long-distance travelers from the suburbs.
the notion that prostitution is illegal is so archaic and stupid. it should be legalized. it can be taxed; women can be treated for health issues and violence would be signficantly removed.
One Wag’s #5 comments are fair, as it applies to married str8 hypocrites to cheney who says he supports it. I’m more with #6 as to what should happen to cheney. He’s the embodiment of outdated ideology.
This is a question of supply/demand. if it made sense for the ho’s to go to silverlake or woodland hills, they would.
LoftLA, AMEN. Why so much negative on this blog. I know, let’s all be Debbie Downers. I can say that anything on 11th & Fig is better than a parking lot. Is there nothing redeeming about LA Live. How about a few more construction jobs in LA, a few more jobs in LA, an attempt to do something with Downtown LA other than use the open spaces for parking lots. I live Downtown & I can say that it not NYC or SFO but then again it not Downtown Northridge, Eagle Rock, Woodland Hills, etc.
Rustic 1930s Ranch in Sherman Oaks Asking $1.45 Million
Personally I’m not crazy about that part of Sherman Oaks with it’s rather close together houses. I realize the neighborhood is very centrally located for the Valley (near the 405 and 101), but I would rather spend my $1.5M on a house in the southwest valley (Encino, Tarzana or Woodland Hills), as you’re likely to find a similarlly sized house on a larger lot. Yes, you’re going to be atleast 3 to 10 miles further west, but the further west you go, the more house you usually get for your money.
New To Market: Slightly Sloped House for Sale In Woodland Hills
@One Wag: Why?
Well, last winter I had a client who had her heart set on getting a deal on a short sale property in Woodland Hills south of Ventura Blvd and she did find one she really liked and got it.
Anyway, I must have shown nearly every single SS south of Ventura, between Calabasas and Tarzana that was under 500K of which there were many at that time.
The monstrosity on Marmol was one of them.
@guest (#10): Believe it or not there really isn’t much decent out there at this price unless you hoof out to Woodland Hills-NOT! Keep in mind that view under a mil usually means no pool and a lot so sketchy that the next 6.4 could put you in the bottom of a canyon. I suspect that soon enough a lot of the better 1.2 stuff will be 850 though. :)
Someday enterprising agents will call this area Bel-Air North.
