Can Nicer Sidewalks and Cleaner Buildings Perk Up Westwood Village?
@westwoodnc: Regardless of the chicken / egg conundrum, the problem NOW – regardless of its impetus – is the Homeless. Today walking down Broxton to Yogurtland – I encountered four of our town’s regulars. (1) Sing-begging guitar guy outside Stan’s, (2) Heavyset man with gangrenous legs on the Chipotle bench, (3) Screaming foreign language constantly walking dude (Portuguese?), and (4) the iconic crazy haired-gray bearded dusty fellow with a rope belt. Four in two blocks. And there are many more recognizable faces that were elsewhere in Westwood. There is NO DOUBT these people need help from our city and society – and deserve a place to live and assistance re-entering society. But if we are having an honest debate, it is this issue more than any other that keeps people away from the Village.
Beverly Hills School District Sues Purple Line Subway Project
Shame on you Beverly Hills for throwing the rest of Los Angeles under the proverbial bus for your inexplicable reasoning. I wish there were some way we can sue directly the idiots in charge of the school who are responsible for making such irresponsible decisions, but I’m afraid any such suit would just hurt the innocent schoolchildren. This sucks any way you slice it.
Westwood CityTarget's Final Trimester, Remembering Esther
@guest#12 & @Erg – Westwood’s revitalization can not happen all at once. It will happen one tenant at a time. There are dead parts, but I work in the Village and hear the buzz — and a lot of vacant storefronts have leases and LOIs. There is also development moving forward on the old Mann National site and (pending resolution of a UCLA Hotel development) the old Hollywood Video site. And – at SOME point in the next decade+ – there will be a subway stop at Westwood & Wilshire. You will see a lot of activity this summer, and next year, I predict that at least 50% of the vacancy will be filled. Westwood just needs to find itself again. It will never again be the LA Movie Mecca, so it must reinvent itself in an appealing fashion. And of course, figure out parking. . .
Los Angeles's Biggest House Is Under Construction In Bel Air
Everyone focuses on the end value – but what about all the jobs this project has created over the last 3~5 years? Construction, materials supplier, graders, architechts, lawyers and on and on. Its an ecosystem in and of itself. I love it. Keep it coming and never stop dreaming big.
