What L.A. could do with its $1.8 billion police budget
I think the slogan is misleading (and a gift to the GOP in November.)
From what I’ve read, the idea to "defund the police" doesn’t necessarily mean no more police in the city full stop… I think it’s more about reimagining what role the police should actually serve in a modern society (given that the status quo is clearly problematic.)
A lot of the work police do doesn’t require a gun or a uniform… shifting who deals with some of these non-violent 911 calls to social workers and/or mental health professionals just makes sense.
Granted, there’s probably some who think we don’t need police at all (and that, to me, seems like a liberal fantasy.) But I think most people are just arguing for a downsizing of police’s role in society, in order to expand other services.

I mean you can look at the census and see it’s a predominantly black neighborhood. And I said historical black neighborhood. Curbed even ran a good article on it. The original "white flight" neighborhood in LA.

What does "all wood" mean for the house you linked? All the wainscoting and wood built ins are stripped from this house. And the "open concept" is not of the era at all either.
you entire post smells of envy and jealousy.
I don’t cry. Only when my checking account at BofA slips under $40 million. (ha)
Btw, I’m still working and lovin’ it.
I know Johnny…all landlords are greedy and wealthy scum
LA now has until September to shelter homeless living along freeways
And thus there needs to be "anti-encampment" laws to enforce this. It’s the only way.
It’s absolute insanity that we allow the homeless and the advocates to dictate things. The people that pay no taxes, continue to destroy the city and take up massive amount of money, time and resources. Of which, these should be going to infrastructure or other viable funding needs that ALL the residents of the city can enjoy.
Sorry but your not allowed to dictate that the only way you will get off the street is to have a room at the Ritz-Carlton with no rules to abide.
The sense of entitlement is off the charts. Especially when you live in a tent or tarp and your toilet is a sidewalk or public land.
It’s just a rough estimate for how I would want it to be refurbished. I’ll have to charge you if you want me to whip out with the measuring tape and notepad.
L.A.’s Homeless Population Grew 13 Percent Since Last Year’s Count — and Is Likely Already Worse
How do you explain the difference between the people who hit a rough patch and avail themselves to the countless programs (government and charitable) to get back on their feet, temporary housing, job training, mental health treatment, free health care, food assistance, etc., and those who don’t avail themselves. If one is at least a little willing, there are so many programs with hundreds of millions, or billions, spent just locally each year. I’m not saying the safety nets are perfect, or even good, but there does seem to be some individual choice in the matter (those with non-drug-abuse-induced mental illness aside). A lifestyle if you will. Maybe its only anecdotal bias from living in central Hollywood for the past eight years, and the homeless constituency is different in other parts of the city. I’m not an expert on this, but it’s hard for me to understand how any CA politician could "solve" homelessness while staying within the constraints of the liberal construct. Politicians won’t/can’t even speak honestly about what homelessness really is. That right there tells you all you need to know.
