Sherman Oaks' Il Villagio Toscano Goes On the Offensive
"Local developer M David Paul wants to put a 500-unit apartment complex"
I’m sure he wanted to put in 500 condos ala-Caruso, but the market collapsed for that sort of Mallrats lifestyle.
That said, the development actually seems in scale for that area. It’s buffered from the low-rise houses and apartments on the east side of Sepulveda by 8 lanes of concrete, and the area is primary densely packed anyway.
Now when they finally take out Castle Park, that will be a tragedy, at least for my memories of my teenage years.
A Look at Paul Williams' Ranch House Ruins, Without the Hike
I have to agree with you SolsticeRanch since I am one of the Grand daughters. My Grandfather Fred Roberts hired Paul R. Willams to create the masterpiece he did. It was the most beautiful place in the world to grow up! You should have done your homework!
Obama Inks New Book Deal Sequel To The Audacity Of Hope NYT
August 5, 2010
In a bidding war reminiscent of a bargain priced Eastside Los Angeles, short sale, Random House has earned the publishing rights to President Barack Obama’s, new memoir, The Audacity of Price. In secret excerpts made available on Wikileaks, the President boasts how, "the Federal Reserve’s coordinated zero interest rate and quantitative easing policies, along with the currency debasing initiatives of my trillion and a half dollar budget deficits, have successfully enabled homeowners in the most remote outposts of L.A., to demand nearly one million dollars for a small single family house." In a subtle swipe at noted Keynesian schooled economist and fellow Nobel Prize winner, Paul Krugman, the President took umbrage at those who insinuated that his stimulus package was too small for the Zimbabwe type price inflation needed to sustain America’s troubled, debt laden, lending institutions. "Having been born in Kenya, I have first hand experience in creating rising asset prices based on the declining purchasing power of fiat currencies. After eight years of failed, ownership society policies, my administration is proud that only a chosen few will be allowed to suffer the burden of owning their own residence." According to sources, within Random House, the President discusses in later chapters how, "hopefully we’ll be able to lift bread prices above that archaic $5 a loaf level and reward dairy farmers by getting milk to parity with gasoline, at around $4 a gallon. Unless you’re unemployed, there’s plenty of cheap money for everyone."
Max Palevsky's George Washington Smith/Coy Howard House in Bev Hills
lanantik: guest #2: I believe Betsky may have been a colleague of Howard’s…which even makes it worse. If you cant speak truth to colleagues, the poor client is lost. Howard could possibly have brokered the project and put it into the correct hands. I am definitely not in favor of disturbing the integrity of original excellent properties. Livability issues can be addressed, as they often are seamlessly with the proper architect/builder etc. It’s a subject that doesn’t get enough attention.
I often wonder why folks are attracted to some lovely example of a great architects work and then want to make hash out of it in a redo, or even worse, to tear it down. This unfortunately happened to one of the loveliest Wallace Neff properties in BH that belonged to one of my Father’s dearest friends and lifelong client. Mr. K actually learned of the property, arrived in LA, took his own after hours tour of the place by flashlight and arrived at the realtor’s office in the morning with a briefcase full of cash. Bingo, it was his. And so it was for about 40 years. In the interim, Mr.K bought up all the surrounding land to create a natural sanctuary, protected by a nondescript, iron and wood industrial type gate to keep a low profile. All of his possessions in harmony with Neff’s ideas along with those requirements of the original owner for whom it was built. Eternally lovely it was. The new owner, Paul Allen, reduced the entire place to dust. I understand he has been through several potential architects en route to his Taj Mahal. Why? I guess because he could. Sad.
@guest #21: I’m a cranky, reactionary Ron Paul/Pat Buchanan fiscal conservative who detests the concept of Central Banks. And yes, I think they lie through their teeth. But these are my market truths.
1. Absent today’s extreme monetary stimulus, I see overwhelming deflationary forces. Too much debt, too much global labor, and too many financial assets (i.e. global shares and housing units).
2. The Fed sees the exact same things that I do. So they’ve created a ying-yang. Rather than allow prices to continue breaking down to their true value-as defined by prior notional currency levels-they’re desperately attempting to "re-inflate" the system, in a manner just a bit more subtle than when Chavez wipes the slate clean by issuing Bolivars, Edition IV.
3. I believe these policy makers are so intrinsically evil that they’d prefer ordinary American’s starving in the streets to the horror of free falling asset prices impacting tax receipts and in turn threatening the marketability of Treasury securities. To the Fed, Treasury and statists, Central Government reins supreme.
4. If the average California voter wasn’t a leftist whack-job personifying the damage caused by runaway government, I’d strongly suggest a secession movement. But alas, California’s fiscal problems accomplish the seemingly impossible. Sacramento makes the Federal government look almost prudent.
Hancock Park Residents Angry Over Delicious Pizza Parking
You can also thank the residents of Hancock Park for killing Perino’s. It was a completely intact, beautiful Paul Williams design that the neighbors opposed because of traffic. Now it’s gone. These people put the "cock" in Hancock.
If I want a Mediterranean House, I’m gonna have a Mediterranean house or perhaps I want a Japanese House, or an Adobe House or how about a fuckin Igloo, yeah…I can pay for it, who cares if this isn’t the mediterranean or the arctic circle, yeah…so that’s what I want. Besides, who gives a crap about John Paul Jones or Morton Downey Junior or whoever that space age lovin’ son of a famous architect was…by golly a mediterranean house would match all the rest of the shit piled high on Palos Verdes…don’t ya think???
