Sherman Oaks homeowners ask Metro for subway through the eastern Valley
There’s a minimum of 5 rail lines that need to be completed before anyone even thinks about this one (Crenshaw north extension to West Hollywood and red line, Red line to Burbank airport, Sepulveda Pass to LAX, Gold line to Ontario airport, green line into Torrance). Not to mention money for fixing the expo/blue line wye at 7th and flower, along with grade separation on the blue line.
Poll: 59% of LA voters have considered relocating because of high housing costs
I don’t understand any person who would sit here and wallow in an un-affordable lifestyle? My parents left in 2008; sold their home in West Covina for just shy of a million bucks. They moved to Atlanta in a suburb/sub-division (3500+ sq/f for $350K) and are actually enjoying life, able to travel, come back to Los Angeles for the Playboy Jazz Festival, events, graduations…etc.
LA’s worst commute: The hellish drive from East Hollywood to Santa Monica
I do practically this same commute every day, Los Feliz to Century City, and I can definitely attest to the author’s experience. The most stressful part of it for me is that it is absolutely a non-stop obstacle course of poor drivers, inconsiderate drivers stopped in the middle of a lane for no reason, or pulling into traffic without looking, or taking illegal left turns, utility trucks, meandering pedestrians/derelicts happily, slowly, jaywalking across Sunset, obstacle after obstacle after obstacle. Then of course there’s times like what happened this past summer where for some reason Century City, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood ALL were doing major lane closures and construction on SMB at the same time for nearly three months. Eastbound SMB through Beverly Hills was completely closed for like three weeks in August, what that did for the afternoon commute was horrendous (imagine taking 45 minutes to go from Century City to La Cienega). Needless to say, I have switched to now leaving for work at 6:30 am, which has made a big improvement in the morning, but even heading back at 3 pm is bad. Ultimately, we live in LA, traffic is our reality, but there are days when you do feel like it’s breaking your spirit one red brake light at a time.
Old photos show the evolution of transportation in LA
When I was a little kid growing up in Chicago my folks took us kids to LA to go to Disneyland. I actually thought LA would look like these "old west" photos. Needless to say I was quite disappointed to find out LA had cars and freeways just like Chicago
LA’s worst commute: The hellish drive from East Hollywood to Santa Monica
By the way, I do agree that the 60 minutes sounds too generous. Using the Red and Expo lines, it usually takes me about 90 minutes to 2 hours to get to Santa Monica, depending how far west I’m going. But I still prefer it to driving for the exact reasons that @disqusted laid out. It’s less stressful, it’s better for the environment, I get exercise, plus, it’s a much better way to see and interact with the city.
Angry Westside drivers want to recall City Councilmember Mike Bonin
Huh? Do you even live in LA? West LA and Mar Vista are different neighborhoods (Mar Vista is on the "westside"). I am a resident of Mar Vista and live near Venice Blvd. I work in West Los Angeles. The only public transportation to my work would require taking 3 different buses that would take 41 mins assuming the buses were on time. It takes me about 15 – 20 minutes by car. I avoid Venice Blvd now by taking side streets (Pacific Ave in the morning) and various side streets north of Venice on my way home.
