The Gold Line, LA's Most Lovable Light Rail, Turns 10 Today
Gold Line is truly a gem, the cars are clean beautiful and the riders friendly and nice to look at. The scenery is amazing it and feels wonderful to look out on the abundant views outside the mountains, urban streets, village corners, historic homes, streaming rivers, exotic chinatown, and wonderful trees. It feels like a amusement park ride instead of a depressing dirty public transport in most of Manhattan.
LA Just Approved Two Huge Towers By Capitol Records Building
I would agree that these towers should not be built if the developer was tearing down a historic structure (as they like to do) or if the area already had a "village" atmosphere (Brentwood etc). But have the people that are against this project driven to the site? This is an extremely underutilized barren swath of Hollywood that needs to be redeveloped. The naysayers have got to be kidding with their desperate crime fear mongering. I dare say that the redeveloped areas of Hollywood (Hollywood and Highland etc.) are much safer than they were 20 years ago when they were blighted.
Fancy Townhouses Coming to Pas's Old Ambassador Campus
@guest #9: Pasadena uses "Smart Growth" as a model for urban development/ redevelopment not slow growth. Which means density in it’s downtown and village centers and take development pressure off single family home residential areas. Please do your research.
Ice Cream Trucks on Demand, Medians For Pico Boulevard
The state of the medians on Pico closer to La Brea is so frustrating. I watched happily as the City installed the medians several years ago, but just two weeks later they were covered in weeds and trash. Initially I thought, "okay, the City is short-staffed and in a few weeks, maybe a month, they will be back to weed, mulch, and finish the planting." Nothing has happened. Not only that, but the initial planting choices include plenty of water gulping plants and trees that only increase the amount of maintenance and overall cost needed to keep them looking decent. Millions of dollars later, and it’s fair to say they do little if anything to improve the appearance of Pico and to attract more businesses and pedestrians.
I live right by Paper or Plastik and I am all in favor of putting in these medians to help improve Pico. However, the Picfair Village and Wilshire Vista homeowners associations, and the neighborhood businesses (through a BID or otherwise) will really need to step up to maintain them. Otherwise it’s just a waste.
Touring Super Social and Pricey The Hesby in North Hollywood
@guest #48: I really would love to know where you live? because people in Bel Air, Beverly Hills have more in common with people who live in Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Encino, and Westlake Village. You are poor. You’re taking up for people who don’t give a fuck about you.
Sorry, but Atwater has had strange smell issues for years. I used to think it was my dog but then I realized I smelled the stench at times when I didn’t have my dog with me. You can smell it on Atwater blvd where all the restaurants are, especially in the evening.
Are Nervous Developers Giving Us A Stumpy Downtown?
City Planning Director quote ""a lot of the growth that we need to accommodate the future could be on these sites, right next to transit. That opportunity could be lost." —-So why is the HIGHLANDPARKTRANSITVILLAGE project which is land owned by the city being approved for a below 3 story project. The city is giving a ;private developer a long term lease to put up 80 units on three separate parcels which can support a development of over 300 units and is adjacent to the Metro Gold Line.

Dude, think "N-I-M-B-Y-S"!!!
Where have you been? Do you even know what a neighborhood council is? Have you ever read past Curbed LA articles with tons of references to NIMBY opposition and DOWNSCALED projects.
The city is AWARE OF THIS. And the city ALSOLACKSLEADERSHIP! Gee, perhaps the NIMBYs have something to do with this also?
