Talks emerge about Amtrak passenger rail linking Atlanta to Nashville. All aboard?
You mean, it’s a miserable experience in the United States. I take long train rides overseas all the time, and much prefer this mode, where available, to air travel, and certainly to driving.

I don’t know about the topography and how that would complicate rail, but I lived in Japan for a long time. No one competes with Japan on rail. The network is incredible, and incredibly efficient. Japan is a volcanic archipelago. There are mountains everywhere. It’s true the the main train lines tend to run on flatter topography, across plains and along the coast. But there is also plenty of tunneling, including on the bullet train lines. It can be done. It’s just not a priority in the US, unfortunately.
New report shows Detroit diversifying, but anxieties around race remain
So in summary, Detroit is increasingly diverse and increasingly rich, and somehow that is a bad thing? As the article stated, the majority of the decrease in African American population percentage in the city was driven by the African Americans leaving poor (often dangerous) neighborhoods and moving to relatively safer, wealthier suburbs.
Isn’t that something that we should celebrate?! These people are becoming more prosperous and making better lives for themselves and the author is mourning this as a travesty! What does he expect the city to do?! Pen them in like a bunch of f**king animals?! How progressive! It has been a long time since I have read such a shameless, inciting, race bating, rag of an article.
I hope that Curbed/Vox takes the appropriate action and removes this article and perhaps it’s author. This is both embarrassing and sad. I think I speak for everyone in this forum when I say we want Erin back. Much more factual and engaging content free of this overt racism and subterfuge.
Homeless residents ask councilmember for permission to camp at Echo Park Lake
It’s validating to see there are so many here who are sick and tired of outlets like this trying to shove this ridiculous narrative down our throats. Using words like ‘evict’ and ‘residents’ and ‘our unhoused neighbors.’
Just stop. This is not normal people. As long as we keep just accepting it as normal, the government won’t solve the problem. They will just keep pandering to the corrupt ‘advocacy’ groups who make a living off the tax money they keep collecting from hard working citizens so they can keep getting paid to guilt trip all of us for not being compassionate.
We bought in Jefferson Park. If you are not willing to live in a transitional neighborhood, then it is not for you. If you look for rows of picture-perfect houses and you want to blend in, buy in Larchmont for more than double. I find Jefferson Park/ West Adams/ Leimert highly interesting architecturally. And a lot of long-term residents, like most of our new neighbors, profit tremendously from the increase in value of their properties. Funny though, we are one of the very few mid-century houses in the neighborhood but are also preserving it as good as we can.

Did I say you did? I know the screen isn’t as conducive as the page, but you gotta read.
We’ll see how long it takes. I’ve been watching this unfold for 30+ years. We didn’t just get here and we’re not getting out of it anytime soon.

This is going to take a long time to address because people like you try to normalize vagrants and insist on completely unachievable "solutions" to make yourself feel less guilty. You continue to oppose tent cities despite the fact that it is the only actual solution which is now being acknowledged by homeless organizations such as the Union Rescue Mission.
