Brentwood's Barry-Building-Killer Retail Project Is Now Dead
most retail left "westwood village" for 3rd street promade back in the 90s… brentwood gonna also gonna suffer slow death too…most new retail on westside going to venice or playa vista …as myopic as SM can sometimes be they have been smart enough to know that mass transit/pedestrain friendly hoods would be a boon…lots of brentwood doesn’t even have sidewalks lol
Giant Cap Records Towers Won't Start Work For a Long Time
"Reps have told LA Weekly they’re not planning to pull building permits, or start some very necessary earthquake fault testing’ ..they know what’s under there, lied about trenching in Oct. "until two lawsuits are resolved..brought, by rich Hills residents.." RICH? HILLSRESIDENTS? Wrong.Millennium would have been shown the door long ago if this was RICH Brentwood or RICH Bev. Hills. ‘Hills Residents’? Wrong. Over FORTYORGS. VOTED against projects,Hollywood, the Valley, the West Side. SIX Neighborhood Councils, three are not IN Hollywood Proper. One is NORTHHILLS.Only one voted to approve, does not rep their community, is not in Millennium’s area, the V.P. works FOR Millennium, and is Phil Aaron’s (Millennium) Hollywood Cap Park Chair, and just got taxpayer money, to the tune of $750,000 out of city council for her and Garcetti’s boss, Aaron’s Cap Park EIR. Not the first time they gave OUR money to Aarons Cap Park, and it wont be the last. 85% of his Millennium Vine Quimby Fees are going to his own Park. There will be no other Parks around that part of town. That NC Board are Millennium and Garcetti supporters, on The Hollywood Chamber (also funded by Millennium) PAC Committee and helped get Millennium’s go to boys, Garcetti and O’Farrell elected.
"represented by prolific development-staller Robert Silverstein—while Silverstein has shown in the past that he’s very willing to settle for a chunk of cash"..no one is ‘settling’ for anything..he beat City Council in Superior Court in another case where he represented the Ignored People.. ‘developer staller’?? Since not one corrupt politico in the city would listen to the thousands upon thousands represented by the over 40 orgs across L.A… Silverstein is The People’s Voice, again. He was the first to present active fault line evidence at the Plum Hearing, as the multitudes of Millennium lawyers jumped up out of their seats during the big reveal, in huddles in back of City Hall, what to do, they got busted. And the Millennium funded Plum Committee scoffed at him, and Englander yawned.
"..at least one of the lawsuits will drag on potentially for years." Since Millennium lied about the trenching that was supposed to occur throughout October, has gone off in a corner pouting because they don’t like the way the game is going….it will be held up for years. Guess they can afford to sit it out.Or their trying to unload it. Maybe they will sue the city for selling them property they can’t build on.
Aarons swept in from NYC thinking Angelenos are asleep and stupid. Garcetti did too..Why not? he has put so much over on everyone so far..
They were wrong.
If you worked on any other paper, a REAL paper, you would be fired for such irresponsible, lame reporting.
If you are ever looking for a job try using this as a sample of your brilliant writing…"some sick assholes actually cried rape"
Very impressive.
Los Angeles's Big Proposed Bike Share Program is Now Dead
Nice. The City can’t make a reasonable business/quality of life decision because it’s in the grips of an insider deal with the billboard companies. That’s a very promising sign.
Here's the Schedule For Work on the Purple Line to La Cienega
@Brentwood 4 Life: Read up a bit more on this, bc Measure J would have accelerated this project dramatically. Too bad it barely failed to reach the ridiculously onerous 66.67% voter threshold (where every "No" vote counts twice as much as a "Yes" vote). If you are serious about helping the subway infrastructure in LA, then join the lobby to amend Prop 13 (on transit issues) to a reasonable 50% or 55% voter threshold, and then help get passage for what sounds like will be another attempt at Measure J under Garcetti. LA, we will get this train line built, and it will meet a new subway tunnel under the Sepulveda pass too, making it hugely popular. Stay positive, LA!
Here's the Schedule For Work on the Purple Line to La Cienega
Not a newsflash, but the proposed timeline is an appalling embarrassment for such a critical piece of regional infrastructure. Plus, that is all assuming that everything goes according to plan which inevitably it won’t (e.g. Fed Government Budget issues, Beverly Hills lawsuit, DTLA Streetcar Cost overrun, etc.)
10 years for an additional 4 miles? 20+ years to the VA? No demonstrated plans to reach Santa Monica? Would that take until 2050? I guess it’s better to end the line in the middle of a pedestrian deadzone/effective freeway intersection and call it a day.
For someone who has been a real enthusiast for this project and what it could do for the city, my optimism for this project wanes on a daily basis given the glacial-like timeline and horrific planning. If this is the process to build the most important line in the city, how can there ever be any hope to design & build a reasonable comprehensive system?
Here's the Schedule For Work on the Purple Line to La Cienega
@Brentwood 4 Life: Measure J was sold that way, but in reality, it only extended the Measure R tax for an additional 30 years (2028-2058), right? (It did not raise the tax.) I’m not the expert on infrastructure finance, but that may have meant more borrowing capacity, but I’m failing to see how that would have been a real game changer.
Regardless, the timeline in its present form should be patently unacceptable to the residents of this city and any government official in a position of authority on the matter. It’s time to rearrange priorities to get it done.
Once-Controversial, Always-Bonkers Mill Basin Pad Asks $30M
@guest #8: For one thing NYC is only really cold for 3 months out of the year… but anyway. I’ve been to LA. Brentwood and Bel-Air surely have nice houses. Are they nice than Riverdale/Fieldston,Todt Hill, Malba, Little Neck, Belle Harbor etc.??? NO I guess though you’d like to bring up the whole LA county… but in NYC we have suburbs like Pelham Manor – Bronxville – Great Neck – Sands Point – Kings Point etc. etc.
Views? An ocean view is an ocean view no matter where you are. The only "special" view in LA are in the hills… but the last time I was there the air wasn’t clean so I couldn’t see too far down.
I do agree though that this is not really an LA house… it’s more Miami – LOLOL
