Take a sneak peek at the dazzling projections set to cover Walt Disney Concert Hall
I wish they’d made a wide pedestrian bridge over Grand to connect the Music Center Plaza to Grand Park. Would have made a nice viewing platform. And Let’s hope the plaza in front of Related is more than just a few trees—yes grand will run between the DCH and the Related project, but it would be nice to see the hall from a shady area across the street.
County supervisors vote in favor of temporary rent ‘freeze’
‘Restrict any assistance to people that have actually LIVED in CA for most of their lives ’ So we should not assist all the newcomers. I see. This would apply mostly to illegal aliens from south of the border. Is that what you mean? The throngs of people moving to CA aren’t from the rest of the US. They are illegal aliens who want government freebies courtesy of the US citizen taxpayers. Rent control has become an issue for the politicians mainly because illegal alien renters are having trouble paying their new rents in the Westlake district around Mcarthur park. Amazing how they can rustle up 20k for a 16th birthday party or $200 for fake documents but cant afford a $350 rent increase. As far as the homeless are concerned- mental illness, drug/alcohol abuse, and being criminals are the most common reasons these folks are in tents under the 101. It is absurd to suggest these folks lost their jobs or apartments and went from being employed self sufficient renters to meth zombies in a matter of days/weeks. Normal people who lose their jobs or cant afford the rent get roommates, stay with family/friends,or move to AZ/NV. They don’t start defecating in public, breaking into cars, panhandling at the Burger King drive thru etc. This is just another pander to the illegals. SMH.
Cheerful Craftsman bungalow asking $879K in Echo Park
People pay a lot more than just the equivalent of rent for an Echo Park back lot to live on stair streets in adjacent "trendy" neighborhoods like Silver Lake…
Cheerful Craftsman bungalow asking $879K in Echo Park
The aubergine and apple green color combination is telling a rather sophisticated color story but I’m not surprised as Echo Park itself has transformed into a rather sophisticated community. It is DEFINITELY not the Echo Park of 20 or even 10 years ago……You can see it in the chic shops and in homes such as this and of course it is reflected in the skyrocketing property values.
West Hollywood planning commission signs off on sleek CIM hotel
"And why would anyone stay at La Brea and Santa Monica?"
Decent number of trendy restaurants and shops if you go south down La Brea from that intersection (the Mozza/Chi Spacca spaces, Republique, Trois Mec, Bludsos, General Quarters, American Rag, Self Edge, etc.) or if you walk over to Highland. Also a lot of new creative office space is going up in that area, so a hotel this size might simply be adequate to serve the business travel needs for those folks.
That leaves only one in five square feet that’s emminently exploitable people!
If you want to change those numbers you need a villan and that’s anyone who has scrimped and saved to buy a home —and perhaps raise a family. Get your disdain on now. It don’t take much to hate your neighbors when you got the editors of Curbed on your side. Just a little envy and finger pointing.
Oh, and the "bring down housing prices" line? That’s how you know you’re being played.
not in any neighborhoods that i sell in – including some of the nicer hoods closer to South LA like Leimert Park, Baldwin Hills, etc. you won’t often even get a counter offer. if the house is any good at all, there are almost always several offers from buyers with at least 20 percent down. i have never sold a house to anyone with 3 percent down. i’m sure it happens in the crumby hoods more often and i would think it’s really common in other markets where there isn’t much money to begin with. buyers with low down payments are usually going to need or expect a big credit from inspections and most sellers are not down with that.
