Beefy East Lake new-build is striving for neighborhood record at $839K
With some very limited exceptions, anywhere in Kirkwood or East Lake presents the same options and opportunities for schools: Toomer/King/Jackson in the traditional APS pipeline, or Drew (K-12) in the APS charter pipeline. There aren’t internal boundaries or lines of demarcation within either neighborhood where those options change (other than inside The Villages of East Lake, which has a higher statutory priority for Drew ).

Other than some recent excitement, Russel is a pretty quiet street, since it’s a single block and not subject to much thru traffic. It’d put you a block or two from stuff like Porchfest, and about a half mile walk from 2nd/Hosea, Oakhurst, and McKoy park/pool. It’s pretty well situated if those are appealing amenities for a buyer.

This is very nice and so big. Lot’s of detail not usually found in new builds. The ugly fireplace and the one barn door are the only things I don’t like. As far as it’s location within East Lake I don’t know, I know some areas are more desirable then others
Demolition of historic River North row houses postponed another 90 days
The first four comments all seem pro-demolition. If Chicago bulldozes everything we have that’s old just so something taller and denser could be built, like you all sound like you want, Chicago will just be any other mid-sized throwaway city.
You are the people that caused the Palmer Mansion on Lake Shore Drive to be ruthlessly demolished in favor of two bland-as-hell 20 story apartment towers. They’re denser than a single house, so that automatically makes it good, right? River North is two steps away from being an urban wasteland, and half of what’s keeping it from going there are structures with character, like these.
Kristen Wiig’s Silver Lake home sells over asking for $5.2M
A neighborhood as desirable as Silver Lake SHOULD be commanding these prices. It has been undervalued for many years so let’s hope we start to see this level of results more consistently.
Modern Japanese house in the woods looks like fallen leaves
Brilliant! A house that exudes the heart and soul of the woods……..and Mother Nature herself. It evokes many of the memories of our simple lake house in the protected woods……a touchstone of my childhood.
Bloomfield Hills megamansion includes two-story library, eight-car garage
JUST the psychotic price alone will leave this house sitting on the market for yearzzzzzzz. If I knew how to speak every language known to the human race, I’m positive none of them would have words to adequately communicate just how incomprehensibly overdone, uselessly gargantuan, egomaniacal and pathetically sited this gigantic ode to materialism is. My epilepsy kicked in after seeing just the first two photos and I had lay down on the floor and bite hard on my shoe. I’m sure the decorator(s) made buttloads of money off the Seller. It’s impossible to pick the most overdone aspect/room of the house but there is one that screams at 120 decibels. That being the house is NOT, repeat not on Turtle Lake proper and the side that faces it has no privacy whatsoever or fencing to prevent children playing on the measly strip of grass from falling down the embankment to the street. Beyond mind bloggling and greed, thy name is MAN.
Can a Cabbagetown cottage with a single bathroom achieve a half-million bucks?
Yes, but you also have certain amenities in California like the ocean, beaches, Sierra Mtns, Lake Tahoe, and perfect weather that you don’t have in Atlanta.
The house is pretty nicely done, but the lot is also very tight. But hey, to each his own.
Los Angeles adopts rules cracking down on Airbnb hosts
Although I certainly have sympathy for homeowners who are supplementing their income by doing short-term rentals, the proliferation of these rental platforms have badly affected many neighborhoods in L.A. I’m in the hills of Silver Lake – a long-time resident – and fully 1/3 of the homes within a block of me have become some sort of short-term rental (some other homes have become long-term rentals to large amounts of people, which is another problematic issue). We have Ubers and Lyfts zipping around our quiet hood at all hours, people with wheelies walking past most mornings and evenings, limited parking, parties, et al. The biggest issue is the destruction of the neighborhood character. These units either used to be owner-occupied, or long term rentals – people who used to contribute to our neighborhood and helped create a feeling of closeness and security. That’s been badly damaged by the short-term rentals. And the actual rental units that should be going to long-term residents are now off the market and continue to churn through the short-termers. Not great.
