Sheds O' Scandal Kept in Place by Grosse Pointe Park
paul wrote this article, paul did sara not give you the memo, there is no politics here. She foolishly said as much to someone else and I clearly remember it. Between the two of you, there has been probably close to a dozen purely political stories on here.
Here's the Jaw-Dropping Plan to Grove-ify Downtown Pac Pal
If I were going to "redevelop" the Palisades, it would be a total "retro" redevelopment! Tear out all "new" buildings built since the mid-1970s, and replace them with replicas of the originals. Both "modern" travesties on Sunset and La Cruz would go (NW and NE corners). The whole business block of Monument south of La Colina Medical Building to Sunset would go. The building on the site of the old Palisades Nursery at Alma Real and La Cruz — gone! The bank where the old Phillips 66 station was (NE corner of Swarthmore and Sunset) would be gone too. That newbie on Via where Hobby Shop was would also get demolished. And, yes — Gelsons would have to go, to be replaced by a new Mayfair Market! And how about a replica of the original Fire Station on Sunset? I recall talk of turning it into a recreation center for teens… but sadly it became a parking lot.
Yep, the following would be resurrected: Art Poole’s Restaurant (with it’s classic mid-Century signage), the Wilson Building (NE corner of Via and Antioch (including Irma’s Café!), Hacienda Galvan Restaurant, Woodburys 5 & 10, Sanders Ltd, McCarthy Drug, and the Hobby Shop (where I spent some of the happiest hours of my childhood!).
Back would be the great old eateries: the House of Lee, the Hot Dog Show, Wil Wrights Ice Cream Parlor. The classic 60’s style Glendale Federal Savings Branch (with the "Safe" and "Friendly" twin babies on the sign!), and the old Richfield Station next to it (NE corner of Sunset & Monument) with it’s classic neon eagle perched on top. Del Wright’s Garage, the Weathervane, Kate Danzig Fashions, Colveys Gentlemen’s Corner, and Bank of America building (Monument & Sunset). In the Business Block, we’d bring back the Palisades Drug, Mr. Romeo Travel and Gladdens Furniture. Harringon’s Camera Corner and the Camera Spot; the Palisades Florest and La Femme Fashions.
Hughes Market, with the iconic "A" shaped sign would ride again. Keating & Lee Liquor, Chicken Delight and Palisades Sporting Goods (both across Sunset from the Mayfair Market). Welcomed back would also be the REAL Bay Theater…. AND Bay Liquor Service (right between Bay Theater and Bay Pharmacy). The Brush & Ladder, Sunset West Coiffeurs, Emerson Cleaners AND Lemay Cleaners. The Book Shelf, Allegro Music Shop, Palisades Travel Bureau, and Ginny Russo. The George Elkins Company (on Monument), The Beauty Spot, Ettore’s Beauty Salon, Nadyne Sportswear, Paul Horst Painting, and My Fair Lady fashions.
Also restored would be the offices of the great realtors of the Palisades past: Billlie Henry, Lelah Pierson, Townsend-Simpson, Haddad, Florence Simpson, Arthur Loomis, Bill Huntington. Well, that’s just a sampling of what the Palisades should still be. Please feel free to use the "Comment" feature to add any more that come to mind!
Is Ringo Starr have financial troubles, since he is unloading some of his properties? The late George Harrison, ran into some financial woes before he passed away. The late John Lennon’s financial affairs were rescued by his wife, Yoko. She is quite a business woman. Sir Paul McCartney is the only one who seems to have escaped any financial situations. He must have a great financial advisor.
Is Ringo Starr having financial troubles, since he is unloading some of his properties? The late George Harrison was having some financial situations before he passed away. John Lennon was fine due to his wife, Yoko taking over his business affairs. She is quite a business woman, otherwise John would have had financial problems. Sir Paul McCartney is the only one who does not have financial woes. He must have a great financial advisor.
