Proposed Bike Path Rattles Plan for Santa Monica Parcel
Lets forget all the political pandering and get to the point. They made all these beautiful plans and do not want the riff-raff near there beautiful urban oasis. They have a preconceived bios toward bicyclists.
I could care less about weather someone builds a special path for me. I ride down what ever road I need to get where I am going. I do care that people respect my right as a law abiding citizen and a legal road user. If you want these people to respect your opinion than you need to make your opinion known to the right people. You also need to make sure the people who do not want the bicycle access look like the self serving money pinching clowns they are. There power over you is money. Follow the money and you will have a better chance of winning. You say this is city property. Somebody is making allot of money for them to consider what these people want.
Five Important Things We Learned About Meruelo's 11th and Grand Plans
"Downtowners love this project" Who the hell are who getting your info from? This project is a J-O-K-E from a BK developer so full of hubris its laughable! 4k sq units for a family? Where is the school? Where is the park? Do you homework next time.
Party Sans Cars Downtown, Hollywood Emerson Project is a Go
@guest #6: But you could take the 733 Rapid from Lincoln/Venice to Downtown in about an hour (at the peak of the evening commute, several minutes less at off-peak times). That is very close to the running time of the old Pacific Electric streetcars. You could catch up on your reading, respond to e-mails and do a lot of productive things that you cannot (or should not) do while driving.
You could also ride your bike from Lincoln/Venice to Downtown in just over an hour.
By car, for a 7pm event, my guess it would take 40-45 minutes, plus some pretty expensive parking.
Respectfully, if the only way you are willing to "move beyond cars" is to demand a subway withing walking distance of your home in fairly low-density Venice and/or public transit that is faster than your car, I am not sure this event was made for you.
Ghost of Building Booms Past Still Haunting Eagle Rock
Hopefully the geology / packing was done correctly. See "Bing" map, Aerial, Bird’s eye view, you’ll see it without the house and with the house being built when you use the arrow to view the house N, W, E, S.
Remembering the Big, Wonderful Life of Urbanist John Chase
i miss john very much- he was a delight to work with- an inspiration for outstanding design to the fortunate cities of santa monica and west hollywood.
i enjoyed the time from when we discussed his background at ucla, uig and working with charles moore, debated our projects designs, to his presentations to the city – and ultimately to the times he looked at the flowers on site to make sure if they were what the city expected.
he championed the city’s architectural heritage from the early railroad and film workers housing, through schindler ( for whom we both shared an extreme caring) to todays young architects using the design freedom and contextual responsibility he encouraged.
he was in the rare but wonderful tradition of the citizen architect public servant who could effect change thru his good works. i miss him…and should be remembered in the history of those who made west hollywood.
Sherman Oaks' Il Villagio Toscano Goes On the Offensive
I have a NEW slogan: "Imagine this SOMEWHERE E L S E"!!!!! I don’t live in Sherman Oaks NOW, but did, for three years, as I was growing up. I, for one, am sick and tired of all these ‘developers’ who want to make Calif. be like NY;’ with all these tall buildings… ENOUGH!!!!!! And not to brag… but my dad owned land in the 50’s off Beverly Glen Blvd. and got to name the street Deervale Dr. He had single family homes built on the lots… He did wind up selling the homes…
Holy Tokyo, Downtown! Wilshire Grand Hotel Project Could Go Electric
@Chris Loos: chris, here is the thing, the BofA bldg has been done. and it looks just fine. but it doesnt stand out in the sea of high rises in manhattan. sure, its nice, but its not special. this plans to be our new piece de resistance. in that case, ill stick with the library tower anyday.
if you want to point to a manhattan building to copy, lets talk about one beacon court (bberg tower/151 E 58th). now that would be the shit at this site. that is a sexy building and the portecochere is sooo LA and would work on this block. and the dual towers could be stretched into the sky. thats the building to copy, not the bofa tower.
Big Couple of Days for Astani, Starwood and Concerto
I don’t think it can be overstated how much the downtown area has changed within the last 5 years. Anyone who doesn’t know should head to the art walk on the second Thursday of each month. I don’t live downtown but go there about twice a week for some of my favorite restaurants and bars. I find the eclectic group of residents and patrons incredibly fresh and intellectual. There is no question that it’s now not just a vacant empty no-mans-land, but it is instead a destination within LA and now a viable residential neighborhood.
This being said, the situation for Concerto is totally upside down and is going to be a complete loss in the long run for Astani. This is obvious. When compare to Evo, I think that it’s more of a matter of taste to whether you would choose one or the other. They are both high quality construction with Evo having slightly better finishes. Evo’s units don’t feel as claustrophobic as concerto especially because you can actually open the windows. Evo’s pool doesn’t get a lot of sun, but then again concertos probably won’t be much better. Evo has semi-concierge service for approximately the same HOA and Concerto will not have these services. I think the best thing about Evo over concerto as of now is the fact that it’s a completed project and almost full. Buying at concerto now is definitely a gamble as to how e project will ultimately turn out, but still is one of the nicest offerings in a quickly up-and-coming neiborhood. I for one, hope everything gets worked out and buyers can be excited about owning in Concerto.
