Georgia governor throws $100M behind metro Atlanta transit initiatives
yeah… they are inviting MARTA to the meetings to ask them to pay for their mass transit lol
if you wanna ban ARs, please be prepared to soon meet your future overlords- wild boars… they are such an issue that you can already hunt them with basically whatever you can get your hands on… I have a feeling the gov’t will soon start paying people to hunt those creatures…
Georgia governor throws $100M behind metro Atlanta transit initiatives
1) no… suburbanites should have been campaigning for MARTA expansion this entire time… now when they realized that they have been left behind because they have no public transit, they want the people of CoA to pay for them… no thank you… collect your own $$ and find a way to integrate into the city on your own
2) see #1
3a) you left out like 97% of animals that you can legally hunt
3b) 3 gun competitions (probably the most popular discipline) require a rifle (typically an AR), a shotgun (either detachable mag or very large tubes) and a pistol (that one is more open ended but mag capacity is certainly not small regardless of what you choose to run)

Good catch. Not sure where the commenter got her info on the house supposedly being owned by a cinematographer, but that appears to be incorrect & it certainly was not the John R. Hunt whose name is on the house.
As for the opera singer, there is a garage sale ad in the 14 Nov 1991 LAT classifieds listing a slew of opera memorabilia for sale, under the header, "LA Opera singer’s lifetime collection of 55 years." Other household items are also listed. The address given is 2055 W. Silverlake Dr.
Here are the residents listed for 2055 W. Silverlake Drive, from various editions of the Los Angeles Street Address Directory:
1960
John R. Hunt (assume they mean Mrs. John R. Hunt, widow – JRH himself died in 1957)
Jimmy Gray
1963
J.R. Hunt
John N. Christopher
1965
Building [sic]
1969
J.H. Allard
1973
Robin Baltuch
1987
Robin Baltic
Robin Baltic turns up in the LATimes in the 1980s as a "Silver Lake events consultant."
The only link to opera that I can find among these names is the surname Allard. A well-known baritone singer named Maurice Allard lived in SoCal during that period (died in 1995). His obit in the LAT says he did reside in Hollywood for a time, but most of his latter years were spent in Orange County, where he taught music at UC Irvine.
Based on this info I wouldn’t claim that the house was once owned by an opera singer. I think there is circumstantial evidence that someone who lived there had a large opera memorabilia collection, and that that someone might have been related to Maurice Allard.

Follow up:
Okay, I found a John Hunt, born 1895 in Georgia, in the 1920 Census, living in Los Angeles. He was a lodger at 1349 South Flower St. His occupation is listed as photographer for a film company. I could find no listings of any John Hunt at the Flower St address, or with that occupation, in the LA directories of 1918, 1920, 1921 or 1922.

Where did the info come from that the John R. Hunt who owned this house was an early cinematographer? I found no corroboration of this in some archival digging.
The John R. Hunt who lived in this house was John Rohrbacher Hunt, 1893 (alt. 1892) -1957, married to Melba Florence Perkins Hunt. Mr. Hunt was born in Michigan. His obituary in the LA Times, 6 January 1957, says he was a director of child welfare for LA County School System for 38 years.
The 1920 US Census lists him and Melba as residents of Oxnard, and his occupation is teacher. The 1930 Census lists him and Melba living at 2055 Balmer Drive in Los Angeles. I’m guessing that Balmer was the previous name of W. Silverlake Drive? His listed occupation in the 1930 Census was teacher. The 1940 Census has him and Melba at 2055 W. Silverlake Drive, his occupation as Superintendent, public schools, and the home’s estimated value at $25,000. (Neighboring house values on the same street were $10,000, $10,000 and $6,500).
The Hunts took a trip to the South Pacific in 1933-1934. Ship’s manifest of the S.S. Mariposa shows them sailing from Pago Pago, departing 23 Dec 1933, and arriving in Los Angeles on 2 Jan 1934. Their permanent residence is listed as 2055 W. Silver Lake Dr., Hollywood.
There was another John R. Hunt, native of Colorado, who lived in Los Angeles years before John Rohrbacher Hunt took up residence there. This John R. Hunt was listed as a machinist in the LA directories of 1915, 1916, and 1917, and his addresses were 1333 South Hope and 3185 W. 10th.
Both John R. Hunts are listed in the 1938 Los Angeles area directory. John R & Melba Hunt reside at 2055 W. Silverlake Drive, and his occupation is Supervisor, County Supt of Schools. John R & Maude Hunt reside at 729 Duncan in Montebello, and his occupation is truck mechanic. In the 1920 US Census. John R Maude Hunt are listed as renting quarters at 206 West 59th Place, and his occupation as machinist at an auto company. This John R. Hunt died in Sept. 1963.
I have no idea who a "John R. Hunt, cinematographer" may have been. But no such person appears to be connected to this house.
Transit Notes: Potholes, a possible Wayne/Washtenaw RTA option, transit stories
Glad you found the time to hunt for unneeded information… the point is that oakland and macomb are still stuck in the past with whatever plans they presented to detroit and ann arbor… so for there lack of interest they will suffer the consequences of denying those residents in each of those counties the benefit of MASSTRANSIT… You can keep your article it has no power in your argument.. the fact of the matter is those ppl who want transit will move out of those counties and into wayne and washtenaw. lets see how long they sit back and wait once all their residents and businesses continue to leave.
Terraced Spanish-inspired house in Highland Park seeks $700K
My husband and I went to see this house over the weekend – the photographs are a bit deceiving – most of the "rooms" are makeshift structures that are freestanding (ie no bathroom, running water, or I imagine heat, etc…) with glass walls and definitely not up to any sort of code. The patios are in lieu of a yard and the whole layout is really bizarre. Seems like a good place to buy if you are looking to start a commune of some sort and don’t mind going outside to get from one room to a bathroom, etc…Also, the converted garage on the base has ceilings that are about 6 feet high…Very strange house – one of the strangest we’ve seen in our house hunt.
Contemplating a Midtown ‘fantasy’ arrangement for Amazon’s HQ2
Well if you are a company that is known for aggressive vertical integration, where would you want to be when the Antitrust lawsuits start flying? Which I mean Amazon is buying up grocers, healthcare, and has even begun to roll out its own delivery service. And what would be the best way to try and offset the massive and protracted litigation as you fight the feds? Where do you have direct access to some of the best and most influential lawyers in the country?
I mean, it would be great for Atlanta, but I fear the HQ2 hunt might be a strategic initiative designed to give Amazon the best chance at weathering any anti-trust litigation in one piece. As far as talent is concerned, pretty much wherever Amazon goes, there will have to be a net in-migration of talent. What I will say in favor of Atlanta is that $100k+ goes a lot further than in DC (or NY or Boston for that matter).
