Let’s educate: First tier cities are NY, Chi, sometimes LA is thrown in but business-wise it’s weak. Second tier cities are Bos, Phil, DC, Atl, Mi, Dal, Hou, SF and now Den, Sea, and perhaps Pho are in transition. Third tier cities are Pitt, Balt, Char, Clev, Cinc, Mil, Ind, St L, KC, Aus, SA, SD, Sac, Port, with Tam Bay in transition. The Fourth tier is Buff, Rich, Louis, Birm, OKC, Alb, LV, SLC. Craigslist Founder Buys Exquisite Greenwich Village Co-op for $6M
Gosh, I remember Craig as a shy science fiction fan. I’m happy for him and for his success. I still see him at SF conventions (not the vast Comic-Con types; the smaller ones actually concerned with written SF).
If he’d been faster, he could have bought the townhouse recently sold by writer Peter Straub, written up on Curbed here:
'Zen-Like' One-Bedroom On a Rare Manhattan Cul-de-Sac Asks $575,000
The building looks like a late 19th century walk up – is 1938 correct? Either way, I agree the brick looks manufactured, and is not to my taste either – I believe the brick if it were real would be more "brick red" than buff colored – even with age. And I have never seen brick in a building of that era (1938) as a door frame. Also, I don’t care for the padded wall behind the bed. The bedroom screams hotel room with it. Overall however, the space is a good layout, and the view out the door is lovely. I am sure it will sell.
Horror Author's Not-Scary UWS Townhouse Sells for $7M
This is very disturbing news. I’ve known Straub for decades. He recently decided not to attend the World Fantasy Convention, held the beginning of November in Saratoga Springs NY, because of health concerns. I wonder if the effort of climbing up and down all those stairs finally got to be too much for him.
Creating a Lasting Home In Brooklyn's Infamous McKibbin Lofts
MEJF: MEJF: @MEJF: Youth and a lack of money aren’t the problem. The problem is the messy, downright dirty, look of the place. These men are a little old for the sloppy, "we’re just guys" vibe to ring true. They need to grow up and clean up. Also, buff the old paint off the floor, it looks disgusting. Underneath it all I think there’s a pretty nice place.
Cantilevered 1960s Modern in Silver Lake by Raul Garduno Asking $899K
OMG. Some paint by a good contractor, buff the outside deck (splinters! ouch) and the interior floors. Don’t touch the kitchen, it is what is and what it is perfectly fine (gas stove tops for the win). Consult with an interior decorator who knows his/her 60s shit for the furnishings. Reinforce the supports up to spec for earthquakes (probably a relatively simple X-beam installation and…maybe 100K) Voila!
Perfect.
