LA wants Waze to stop sending drivers down small side streets
Look, this is exactly the dangerous situation we see on Fanning every evening. People use it to get off Silver Lake Blvd., and to eventually cut over the hill and speed down Benton Way as fast as possible. The bottleneck at Fanning is particularly bad, as people get backed up onto the boulevard, while cars attempt to come down the street. There’s nowhere to turn into and frequently winds up with people having to get out of their cars to direct traffic to back up the hill, allowing cars to get out of the boulevard traffic. Super sorry that commuters have to deal with Glendale/Alvarado and Silver Lake Blvd, but we have to avoid the dangerous situations we’ve found ourselves in, due to these nav apps.
The modernist enclave that tested a utopian vision of LA
Interesting. One of the original founders, Jules Salkin, ended up hiring John Lautner to design a house for him in Silver Lake in 1948. I just realized this connection.

Blaming the victim! Yes, it’s Silver Lake’s fault for being so desired that an unscrupulous builder has NO CHOICE but to illegally tear down buildings to capitalize slightly more on the hot real estate market. Sheesh.

change happens, buildings get torn down and new stuff gets built. it’s the way the world works. blame silver lake for being desirable enough that building an office building there even makes financial sense.
