Ralph Ince was the brother of Thomas, who died on William Randolph Hearst’s yacht of an apparent heart attack. You know, the one that was rumored to have had an affair with Marion Davies and WRH shot him and then covered it up, all rumor supposedly. I knew the name was familiar.
Outside John Lautner's Painstakingly Resurrected Harpel House
You would have to be there to understand the building, the exterior does not translate the very interesting space based on a hexagonal architectural of concrete post and wooden 4×6 beam construction. The expansive glass creates a very unique space for the interior/exterior views.
The exterior does not communicate the interior spaces or meaning of the architecture. It is very much worth visiting if you know the owner, or the next MAK tour.

@William Wynne: You are so right. When someone passes judgement on a work of architecture based on exterior photos like Nahum did I alway dismiss their viewpoint as naive. Architecture is about SPACE not image.
I feel like they’ve had more of a ‘there-goes-the-neighborhood’ kind of effect. I really think Echo Park would be better off without the ‘Day of the Locust’ style ‘Dream Center’ next to the lake. But then there are no religious centers around West Lake and MacArthur Park that I know of, and it’s depressingly dilapidated. Maybe LA just eats its children (architecturally speaking), and the gloomy, funereal religious centers are just part of the diet. The worst example of ‘sacred destruction’ is what has been done to William Pereira’s former headquarters of The Metropolitan Water district…
(That makes me cry, and if the Scientologists could have saved that remarkable complex, I’d likely be out right now soliciting stress tests)
@guest #1: Duh, the prince, because of his mother, is very interested about disadvantaged and homeless people. But you and Zooey seem to think we should shield the royal couple from that? I GUARANTEE you that Prince William would completely disagree with that logic and would not agree with what Zooey said.
Here's the Scene Outside Will and Kate's Place in Hancock Park
As another Englishman who has in the last 2 weeks made his 1st visit to LA, I hope William and Kate are given the same hospitable and friendly welcome as I was.
I can’t see why some posters here are so hostile? They represent no threat to the USA and our royal family has little if any power even here. They have perhaps a little influence but that’s all.
I suspect that like me they will be rather envious of many aspects of life there.
Please judge them on their merits not on pre conceived prejudices.

@guest #13:
They are essentially average people born into a world of privilege and burden. They are blessed with luxury and cursed with constant public attention.
They seem like genuinely nice people. William has dropped the undeserved pretense of his grandmother. I think he will finally reform the monarchy.
Personally, I am against any form of monarchy. Even constitutional monarchies, where the monarch simply serves as a powerless figurehead. It goes against every fiber in my body. I am a Republican (without the present political connotations).
However, when you create traffic mayhem in another country and jab the Quebecois by visiting that part of Canada, you become open to criticism. Please leave Will and Kate. You guys are alright, but you sow pandemonium wherever you go (and it’s not your fault).
The Wallace Neff House Where Will and Kate Will Stay This Weekend
Kate and William seem like genuinely nice people. They are leeches, however they are the nicest leeches you could possibly imagine. William was blessed with privilege and burdened with constant public interest.
They are nothing spectacular. They are nice people who live off the backs of others. I cannot hate them and I cannot celebrate them. They are completely neutral and without significance.
Move along, nothing to see here. Only the very charming refuse of an outmoded political system.
