85 apartments for homeless, low-income residents underway in El Sereno
@eathis ,
1. "you are naive, there are virtually no homeless in beverly hills or brentwood or west hollywood or burbank. they don’t allow it." You mean like that homeless encampment in Brentwood that started the Skirball Fire which burned down mansions and came close to burning down the Getty Museum???
There are many homeless people in those neighborhoods, they just aren’t very visible, because they camp in the hills, canyons, or sleep inside their vehicles with the windows covered up.
2. "Brazil has 1/6 th the homeless population of usa with 2/3 the total population and 1/10 the gdp. its not about about money its about culture." Really, so you’re saying that all those millions of people who live in the Brazillian city slums and Favelas run by drug gangs don’t exist. Yeah, you could say that those people are being "housed" …. but they also live in extreme poverty, drug addiction, malnutrition, and lack basic hygiene, medical and mental healthcare. You could say the same thing about the rural poor in Kentucky or Alabama, having a roof over their heads doesn’t make their lives much better than the homeless in L.A. Their rate of Opioid addiction and Opioid overdose is probably even higher, and their lifespans are shorter.

you are naive, there are virtually no homeless in beverly hills or brentwood or west hollywood or burbank. they don’t allow it. 5 years ago there were no camping tents on the streets now they are everywhere because los angeles allowed them. I have been to impoverished countries the world over and they dont have homeless encampments on the streets like here. Brazil has 1/6 th the homeless population of usa with 2/3 the total population and 1/10 the gdp. its not about about money its about culture. tokyo has some of the highest rent on planet earth, avg $1900 in 2019, so your "point" reaffirms my point.
Too much for a one bedroom. South Park and West Hollywood are too much for a one bedroom. I voted for East Hollywood. I’m also a sucker for great views.
I like the concept of this street, it is doable in most East to West streets. Take the parking away on commercial streets, making having a car less convenient! We seriously baby people with cars… its crazy
Handsome new affordable housing complex the Coronel makes its Hollywood debut
Without sounding ungracious, KF could easily have extended the Pueblo style aesthetic to the 4 story building.
All it takes is talent and will.
One was recently completed in West Hollywood in the Spanish Colonial Revival style called Blue Hibiscus.
Residents push for protected bike lanes on Sunset Boulevard
Ironic that the lead photo shows Sunset Junction, which wouldn’t be affected by this plan. I spent all of my childhood and most of my adulthood on a bike. I biked to work, to the store, everywhere. In spite of a couple of horrible accidents (e.g. an old Caddy illegally parked on the west side of La Cienega, around Fountain, opened its enormous door suddenly in front of me – I crashed into it at high-ish speed, my bike pretzeled and I was lucky to survive).
Unfortunately, after spine surgeries, I no longer feel safe on L.A. streets while riding my bike. I’ve had to hang it up – at least for inner city biking. The increase in traffic, in people paying more attention to their phones than the road, in Uber/Lyft drivers who think the bike lane is there parking lot, in people placing their trash bins in the bike lane (yeah, looking at you, people on Griffith Park Bl!), distracted drivers opening up their doors into the bike lane, etc., etc., all makes it crazy unsafe. I applaud any move to make bike lanes safer for everyone.
By the way, we should teach young (and older) drivers how the Dutch are taught to open their car doors – with their right arm, not the left. It’s known as the ‘Dutch Reach’.
Why Is the Valley So Hot—And How Can LA Cool it Down?
Ain’t gonna help. Our street is more like 25’ with the front of our house facing west, and it’s hot. A few years ago I went into our neighbors house across the street and was surprised how cool her house was. It’s because her west facing backyard has grass. It’s a huge differnece. I think the only option to help us is more trees. Unfortunately many homes around us took their tress down after the fires in 2007. Uhg!
