Construction starts on seven-story Skid Row housing complex
Or if California got it’s collective head out of it’s massive * and built a dormitory compound for them out in the desert where we could have all these facilities in one place with a re-entry program based on merit/condition.

@ 400K+ a unit that’s all you can buy in this city, that’s why I purposed building a massive compound in the desert we can house them all in one years time. BUTNOOOOOO that would be a terrible thing to do (says the liberal progressives)

I think the fan palm illustration is attempting to show what a wild fan palm would like like without the pruning off of the dead palm fronds. I’m not sure if the fluffy stuff in the illustration was why you made that comment? The fronds do kind of look like other palms tho, so maybe you were just being a thorough art critic?
Also not to get too semantic about things, but in Alissa’s defense, she only claims the Saguaro is native to the Sonoran Desert and the desert of Southern California. She didn’t say that it is native to Joshua Tree, in this article at least.

Great article, but, I’m sorry, I’m going to be "that guy" and highlight a few serious mistakes.
(1) As was pointed out above, there are no naturally occurring saguaro cacti in Joshua Tree National Park. The only naturally occurring saguaro cacti in California are in the far southeastern part of the state near the Colorado River (chiefly the Whipple Mountains).
(2) Cacti are native to both North America AND South America.
(3) There is no California Fan Palm oasis in Tahquitz Canyon. There’s a great waterfall and natural pool and awesome desert vegetation there, but no fan palms. If you want fan palms, go to Palm Canyon at the south end of Palm Springs. That’s the World’s biggest California Fan Palm oasis, I’m pretty sure.

Beautiful illustrations but that’s not what a california fan palm looks like. Also, ponytail palm is not a type of agave. Aloe, euphorbia, bouganvillea, and red hot poker are all not native to america. Also, there are no saguaro cacti in Joshua Tree
You can’t put together a list of "the best hotels in Palm Springs" and leave off The Parker, or the Colony Palms for that matter. The Parker is just an egregious, although obviously intentional, omission. Even if you find the place obnoxious, you can’t leave it off. You have the Saguaro on there for god’s sake. The Saguaro is fine. Not a place I’d want to stay, but fine. A Holiday Inn that they painted with a DJ’d pool scene and a ping pong table in the lobby. The Parker is a special hotel that can have maddeningly crappy service from time to time and charges you $18 a drink at the pool. But it’s still a beautiful place with unique rooms and an outstanding spa.
Buying a house in the desert? Here’s what to expect
I like the desert in the summer. It’s less crowded and so peaceful. It’s great to jump in the pool any time of the day or night and not feel a bit of chill. Yes, some days are oppressive but the birds still sing and the flowers bloom. You learn to schedule your day around the peak sun times. Sure, I’d rather be in Cape Cod if I could but even so I would take any desert summer month over a winter one back East any day, but that’s just me. Certainly it’s not for everyone but neither is riding a packed New York subway at rush hour. Now THERE’S something I would never do again.
