First Look at the Petersen Auto Museum's Big Interior Makeover
I was a member of the Petersen for about 10 years. They had some really nice temporary exhibits over the years, but much of the museum was just okay. Before Johnny Rocket’s moved in there was nowhere to eat on-site, which necessarily made our visits on the short side. The museum could pretty much be tackled in about an hour.
Still, despite numerous visits I always looked forward to walking on the first floor L.A. Streetscape (the Petersen even hosted trick-or-treating for members on the "street," combined with opening the vault), whether it was to see the mock gas station (with old gas pumps), the car dealership, the grocery market, the car-customizing speed shop, the coffee shop, or to see the "fine mess" of Laurel and Hardy’s collision with an L.A. streetcar. I see that the programmatic architecture example, of the pipe-smoking dog on the ice cream shop, has been relocated, but I hope the Petersen keeps some walk-through exhibits that tells a story about our unique car city.
The Petersen, after all, is located on the Miracle Mile. The museum should mention why that location is significant.
See How Frank Gehry Will Transform the Eastern Edge of the Sunset Strip
The lowness of this specific intersection where people can appreciate the canyon around them from street level is one of the few "central" spots in Los Angeles. This specific intersection feels like it should always be left open with low buildings rather than taller ones that eat up the natural airspace. Tall is great in Hollywood and other places but this specific intersection really feels like it should remain low.
What really happened at Rustic Canyon’s rumored Nazi ranch?
I am Norma Theanne Stevens, called Toni since I was 14. My dad Norman Stevens built this beautiful ranch and we lived there during the war. Carlile (Steve) and I went to Santa Monica Canyon School near Sunset Blvd and the beach. All of this about nazis and a Herr Schmidt is a bunch of garbage, totally made up by some kook. Verna Weber was our teacher. We both went to Stanford as did my mother ,Winona Basset. I am in my 80,s and lived in Laurel Canyon for years. I have just lost my husband, Bud Pepper , and live in San Diego County. My mother died in ;54, the year I graduated from Stanford.
Hollywood Sign Neighbors Happy to Welcome Tourists as Long as They're Paying Hundreds of Dollars
@comment tater: Comment Tater….actually ever AirBNB house shown in the video is in north Beachwood Canyon and is right below the Hollywood Sign. Each and every one is close to Beachwood Drive and near the Hollyridge Trail Gate. That is simply a fact!!! Please learn how to read a map before you make accusations that are wrong.
John Barrymore's Once-Glam Beverly Crest Estate Hasn't Been Totally Ruined
I’m friends with John Blyth Barrymore (Drew’s half-brother) and this was his comment on the property: "They probably though it was Lionel’s because of the funicular; Lionel’s house in Beverly Glen Canyon had a funicular. If there’s one at the former Bella Vista (the one in the article) it was probably to accommodate Lionel when he came to visit."
LA Finally Providing Official Viewing For the Hollywood Sign
@Eugene Gordon: Well spoken, I live further down in Beachwood and have witnessed the dramatic spike in visitors since the advent of Waze. Every day, I walk my dog up to Hollywoodland—and every day I see people in the MIDDLE of Beachwood Drive taking photos with the sign in the background. It’s not if, but when, someone is going to get hit. The parking lot of the Beachwood market is overflowing. Touristas in rented convertible Mustangs swarm the canyon armed with Waze in one hand trying to navigate and drive simultaneously. I am surprised there isn’t permit parking in the hood as there is in Beverly Grove, West Hollywood and other busy places.
Hollywood Sign NIMBYs Suing LA to Shut Down All Access
@sarcastimode: ON: And the Eiffel Tower is just a pile of iron? The Empire State Building is just a tall building? And the Grand Canyon is just a big pit? That’s the most ridiculous comment in this whole string. Like it or not, the Hollywood sign is L.A.‘s Eiffel Tower and it’s what every tourist comes here to see. That’s why anyone who chooses to move in next to it shouldn’t be surprised by the traffic.
Here's Metro's Big Proposal to Speed Up and Cut Back on Los Angeles Bus Service
Can Laurel Canyon even handle a bus on it? The road is very windy and has rocks falling down on it. It barely can handle the cars that drive up and down.
