@STARCHY: been to LA twice, both times before our our architect daughter’s mcm influence had worked on me. the earliest guys, neutra and schindler in particular, have now become something of a cause celebre with me, but i have to confess to never having been inside any mcm. therefore B&H mean little to me….
Updated But Original-Looking Cliff May in Long Beach's Rancho Estates
if this is typical of cliff may, did anyone check if he was active in the boy scouts in his youth? the spaces here are pure village hall. all they need are some old camping gear in the corner, and the scene would be complete.
as for the contributor who said this architect is one of his favourites, what did neutra, schindler, soriano, ain, or koenig, to name but a few, not fulfil?

13,
Well Neutra is pretty much everyones favorite architect, myself included. I’m actually obsessed with his VDL house at 2300 silver lake blvd, among others. I’ve scurried all the photos I could find anywhere. Add Ellwood, Matsumoto, Fickett, Killingsworth, Khan, and Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 complex to my list, hence my user name.
Maybe you’re not a fan of a Cliff May’s home, but I really like them. My only complaint is that they’re a burglars dream. Neutra, Schindler, etc, never never really had tracts, so purchasing one of their homes has pretty much become unattainable , at least for me that is.
Lloyd Wright's Moore House Officially on DeathWatch Notice...Again
@guest #13: You are an idiot. Lloyd Wright designed many significant houses in Southern California and he would be known even without a famous father. Are Neutra, Schindler & Lautner only known because of their connections to FLW? Maybe you were thinking of Eric Lloyd Wright.
@tomb: FLW houses are not automatically protected just because he designed them. Some of Lloyd Wright’s have been protected. Your statement that all LW are subject to demo simply isn’t true.
My sentiments exactly! The whole buy-sell-buy bigger-sell-buy much bigger than you’ll ever need cycle driven by greedy realtors and "upwardly mobile" pain in the butt "I’m waaaay toooo cooool for you" hipsters is a partial cause of our collapsed housing bubble…for all you hipsters who think the "rat pack" and porkpie hats and "Madmen" is for you just remember those were the days when people spent 20,30 or 40 years in a home and created stable neighborhoods and actually knew their neighbors! All that said I love the How house and all things Schindler.

@glitzy bernini: I went to the website and I still see no dominant line from Schindler. I certainly was not basing my assessment on Kings Road but on Schindler’s entire oeuvre. Rather than have me refute the ways that Schindler’s influence does not seem evident in this body work work, why don’t you please enumerate the links that you do see?
@glitzy bernini: I too see no Schindler influence here whatsoever…………….
Structural ingenuity? No
Constructional ingenuity? No
Aesthetically advanced for its day? No
Conceptual clarity? Not so much
Wood trim? O.k., you got me there………….
