‘Exciting’ Hollywood Boulevard makeover unveiled. But don’t call it radical.

What cars? The tens of thousands of cars that drive on Hollywood Blvd every day.
They can use Santa Monica or Sunset? Oh really, I didn’t realize those streets weren’t already congested beyond capacity. This will be a disaster. Period.

I didn’t say 3rd street promenade. I said 3rd Street, which in downtown extends for 1 mile and dead ends at Broadway to the South and Montana to the North. It is not an arterial. Hence it is a good candidate for a pedestrian promenade.
Hollywood Blvd is the northern most major arterial in Hollywood and has access to Highland (101 North) and direct to 101 South. It is not a good candidate for a road diet. Why don’t you start by telling us the ADT, which is the starting point for any consideration of a road diet.

Exactly, and that’s the problem they’re trying to improve. Hollywood Blvd in and of itself is iconic just like the Hollywood sign. This section of the street itself is the destination point. Improving the entire street so it’s much more friendly to pedestrians will make the experience of visiting this area worth while for both tourists and locals.

The 3rd Street Promenade doesn’t dead end on each side. You have Broadway on one side and Wilshire on the other with Arizona and Santa Monica actually still accessible to vehicles in the middle of the Promenade. Again, the same can be done on Hollywood Blvd.

I don’t get what people go to Hollywood Blvd to see other than the Chinese Theater. What’s so exciting about a granite star in a sidewalk that runs along street full of tourist junk stores? I tell everyone spend 20 minutes there and get out – its a waste of time.

3rd Street and Hollywood Blvd aren’t comparable. One is a limited 1 mile road that dead ends on each side and the other is the northern-most major arterial in Hollywood with freeway access.

Yup, I usually use Santa Monica or Sunset to go through. I always stay away from this section of Hollywood Blvd if I’m not going there specifically for a movie or showing an out of town guest the touristy stuff.
BTW, most out of town people are disappointed with the walk of fame and Hollywood Blvd.
