Atlantic Station’s overhauled central park still primed for April debut
Okay, so a "central park" surrounded by streets that don’t seem to engage pedestrians at all? Would it kill them to turn them into Woonerfs or even Pedestrian Malls?? Ugh, Atlantic Station will never learn..
If federal infrastructure money does end up in Boston, what should it be spent on?
Extending the orange line from Forest Hills on 2 branches – 1 to VFW Parkway/Needham Junction, the 2nd thru Hyde Park to RT 128/University Ave & Amtrak connection. That one already has a garage to park cars for people coming off 128/95.
Replace the train yards at Cabot Yards and move it to the Braintree T stop (where the current shops are at, either rebuild those shops above the new rail yard or condense them into one area with new garages). This offers much easier train maintenance, getting trains on & off the tracks, clears up extremely valuable land downtown to developers whose sale of said property’s funds that can also fund the MBTA.
Convert the Fairmount/Indigo line to an actual subway line (it should have never been updated to a commuter rail), leave the current terminus at Readville (connecting the red line Mattapan line to Bluehill Ave stop & the extended orange line at Readville), go under ground at South Bay shopping plaza, veer thru Andrew red line stop (connection Braintree lines), a stop @ Broadway & Dorchester, a stop @ Broadway & L street, a stop @ Summer & Drydock, a stop near the convention center and end at South Station. Possible extension underground running along existing orange line, swing and connect to Tobin Bridge (running underneath), swing into Chelsea Square running underneath Broadway all the way up to RT 60 swinging into & terminating at Northgate Shopping Center
Construct an orange line extension from Sullivan Square, create a new line that runs over the commuter line bridge into Medford and then Everett running underground beneath Broadway/Lynn street terminating near RT 1 at either Broadway or Lynn street.
Add a stop to exisiting orange line Oakbrook at Medford St. Convert that mostly empty/under utilized adjacent land along the river to affordable housing.
Continue Oakbrook orange line at least one stop to Wyoming Hill. Possible extension to RT 128 & North Ave, converting existing commuter line stations to subway. There is more than enough vacant land at the exit to construct a new terminal rail yard and a park & go. Replace the yards at Wellington Station into affordable housing. We now have a 2 seat connection from The South Shore/Braintree/RT 93/RT 3 to the The North Shore/RT 128, a span of approximately 25 miles. This route also roughly parallels 93 from Braintree to Reading and could greatly reduce the existing horrific traffic along this corridor. This also offers a faster commuter rail trip from much further out towns by eliminating it’s inner core stops.
Run the Medford/Green line extension 2 more stops to RT 60/West Medford commuter rail line stop. Possible extension into Winchester Center. Possible further extension into Woburn along existing commuter rail lines.
Continue the Union Square/Green line extension 2 stops to Porter Square, then along/replace the commuter rail line thru Belmont to Waltham & Brandeis/RT. 128. Again, this offers rail to new communities as well as shortening trips along the commuter line for communities much further out.
Extend the Green line/D line at Newton Highlands 3 stops to Needham Center.
Convert the Silver Line to light rail (it was already designed for this) from Logan Airport thru the Seaport District, new tunnels under Washington Street to Dudley Square. Continue tunnels under Warren Ave to Blue Hill Ave/Seaver St/Columbia Road, come above ground and run down Blue Hill Ave (like the C-line Beacon St/B-line Comm Ave) to Mattapan Square connecting at Blue Hill Ave/Mattapan red line/indigo lines. The city of Boston already is designing plans to redevelop Blue Hill Ave transit along this 3 mile corridor.
Connect the blue line to the red line at MGH stop. Tunnel under The Charles River, connecting to Kendal Square red line as well. Then continue tunnel under non-utilized tracks thru East Cambridge/MIT, cross over exisitng bridge under the BU bridge, then new trackage along the soon to be under construction of the realignment of the turnpike, swing up to Western ave in new tunnels and travel under Arsenal St. to Watertown Square. This proves access to East Cambridge, Allston & Watertown. Continue the name blue line as it roughly parallels the Charles River.
At $669K, updated 1920s bungalow is Inman Park’s least expensive house at the moment
i do think something like this:
can actually make the space seem a lot larger, but with 12ft ceilings, there wasn’t really a need to do it in this inman park bungalow. it’s more of a trick for lower ceilings.
i’m actually planning on doing something similar to this in my master bath:
Poll: Should officials restrict access to the Beltline, parks to fight coronavirus spread?
Agreed. I think people have lost their Beltline privileges for a while, but I’ve been walking my dogs in a nearby park with hardly anyone in it. No need to close all public spaces. Just break up any large groups and if it’s a consistent problem shut down that particular park.
Amid calls for rent relief in New York, Cuomo insists the issue is solved
The issue is NOT solved. The real problems have only just begun.
We are going to be experiencing mass layoffs. Every industry will be affected. We’re looking at record unemployment, with inevitable defaults on rents, mortgages, taxes, you name it. Most residential buildings will be unable to keep up with expenses. What is the city and state going to do? Evict a million or more people at the same time? Shut down and foreclose on the city’s 100,000 apartment buildings? Set up a depression-era "tent city" in Central Park? We may have to.
Our government has to take drastic measures, on every level, or we’re in serious trouble.
Beltline CEO: ‘We’re discouraging casual use’ during coronavirus restrictions
It may not "land" on you…but it could very well be smeared on you, either quite literally by touching an infected individual or by touching an object that was also touched by an infected individual.
Sure, we can "physical distance" but the probability of us touching an object touched by an infected person goes up dramatically the more people are "physically distancing" at Piedmont Park or the Beltline. This virus is the hulk of viruses; take it serious now.
Lindbergh MARTA stop’s transit-oriented community primed for makeover
The Lindbergh/Morosgo area is in Buckhead proper and it has been a thorn in the side of anyone who lives around that area for the very reasons that HerbieCurbie has noted.
Hopefully it will be improved upon, b/c it truly is a worn-out, unattractive, crime-magnet mess that can turn into a circus at night. The neighborhoods that it borders (Garden Hills, Peachtree Hills, Peachtree Park) are wonderful COA gems, so it’s sad that it’s been permitted to exist in such a sad state to begin with.
