Handsome 1940s Traditional in Los Feliz Oaks asking $3.6M

The home occupies a lot of nearly half an acre.

Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1889, architect Louis Scisorek relocated to Los Angeles during the building boom of the 1920s. There, he reinvented himself as Louis Selden, and established a thriving practice building period revival-style homes and apartment complexes known for their exceptional quality. A resident of Los Feliz, Selden designed numerous buildings throughout the neighborhood, including this attractive traditional in the Oaks.

Built in 1940, the house was commissioned by Leonid Raab, a composer and orchestrator for scores of classic films, including Rebecca, The Women, Rear Window, and Sunset Boulevard.

Along with four bedrooms and three and a half updated baths, the 3,716-square-foot home features hardwood and stone-tile floors, high ceilings, crown moldings, a wood-burning fireplace, French doors, casement windows, copious built-ins, and solar panels, while its .45-acre grounds hold manicured gardens, mature trees, and multiple patios for al fresco entertaining.

On the market for the first time in 23 years, 5724 Green Oak Drive is listed with Richard Stanley of Coldwell Banker for an asking price of $3.6 million.

The living room features barrel ceilings, crown moldings, and a wood-burning fireplace.
A cozy nook in the wood-paneled den.
The kitchen has been updated with professional-grade appliances and custom cabinetry.
French doors let in ample sunlight to the bedrooms.
One of the home’s multiple patios.
Elsewhere on the grounds are a variety of mature trees and manicured gardens.

Whomever did the staging deserves a round of applause.

Whoever, indeed.

This is nice, I love the wood paneling, very post-decco and they did a good job of matching the kitchen cabinets with the other wood, but some of the other finishes/tile is very Home Depot standard and at $3.6 million, I would expect privacy, a view and a pool. None of which this house has. It has a just barely upper middle class 1940 vibe to it.

I too like the staging and the garden is nice

It is a nice house. But I don’t think it’s worth 3.6 million. 1.5 or 2 million is more like it. If it’s on sale for over 3 million, then it should also have a pool. However, I do love that kitchen and garden.

It’s perfect. The upper middle class 1940 vibe (thank you mrjim1), for me, has value. As if Bing Crosby could have lived there.
I love it.

Great bones. Great site. Great neighborhood.

It looks like a flip, albeit an above-average flip. The house numbers are the first tip-off.

The kitchen cabinet and countertop materials look like cost cutting choices. The kitchen wall tile is already dated. The tile flooring is teetering on the edge of being outdated.

The bathrooms also look like flips…but pretty well done.

Not everyone likes a pool. Maintenance. Skin damage. Massive water use. I’d love to get rid of mine. Outdoor rooms look great. House is nice too.
