CicLAvia will take over some of LA’s most iconic streets Sunday, with a 6.5-mile route stretching from West Hollywood to East Hollywood.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., stretches of Santa Monica Boulevard, Highland Avenue, and Hollywood Boulevard will be closed to cars—and opened up to pedestrians, bicyclists, roller skaters, and anyone else traveling without the use of a motor vehicle.

Dubbed “Meet the Hollywoods,” it’s the fourth open streets festival put on by the organization this year, and the first in Hollywood since last year’s massive Downtown-to-Hollywood event staged in partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

East Hollywood and the Little Armenia and Thai Town neighborhoods will be included in one of CicLAvia’s events for the first time since the organization started in 2010.

At its western end, the route will begin at the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevard, close to West Hollywood Park. From there, it will extend east along Santa Monica before hooking north at Highland. At Hollywood Boulevard the route will continue east to Vermont Avenue.

The event is free to attend and those interested in going can connect with the route at any point. Hubs where participants can eat, drink, and participate in activities will be located at the western starting point, as well as Plummer Park, Hollywood and Highland, Hollywood and Van Ness Avenue, and Barnsdall Park.

The route extends 6.5 miles through the cities of Los Angeles and West Hollywood.

Be aware, if you’re planning on driving to the event—or just passing through the area—that street closures will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday and will be in effect until 6 p.m. Santa Monica will be closed off between San Vicente and Highland; Highland will be closed from Santa Monica to Hollywood; Hollywood will be closed from Orange Drive to Vermont.

To avoid a tricky parking situation, taking public transit might be your best bet. The route is easily accessible to four different subway stops on the Metro Red Line (Sunset/Vermont, Hollywood/Western, Hollywood/Vine, and Hollywood/Highland).

Bikes will be available for rent all along the route, and many businesses will be offering special deals to passersby on the day of the event.

Excited to try one of those scooters in an environment in which I won’t get immediately run over.

Try the Wheels ones; they’re the fastest and most stable I’ve used. The traditional scooters are sketchy as hell.

Sorry to burst your bubble but motorized scooters aren’t allowed at CycLAvia.

I don’t think you are sorry.

the article says scooters and other devices will be available to rent along the route that day.

They changed it after your comment because it now says, "Bikes will be available for rent " The CycLAvia website says that anything motorized including scooters are not allowed.

Why does LA love their road closures? They close major roads many times throughout the year. I’m glad I don’t live in this cesspool of traffic jams that are not helped by road closures that prove people don’t walk in LA.

It’s one day. Get over it.

really, I hope the hollywood bowl is not opened.

Ah yes, LA’s historic and well-documented antagonism to personal car ownership and roads.

You clown.

Hah… the "war on cars" in which thousands of pedestrians and cyclists are run over every year, yet somehow motorists feel constantly under siege.

oh boy.

why cut it up. Why not go willy nilly and shut down west hollywood for the day.

I Love LA!

Watch for me on my 10-speed!!!

I was initially excited for the Hollywood event. That was until I decided to walk over to Marshall’s and was nearly mowed down several times by bike riders on the sidewalk. The whole street is open yet there are people riding bikes on the damned sidewalks!
