Lovingly cared for 1930s Spanish bungalow asks $849K in Highland Park

Built in 1935.

On a residential street lined with Canary Island date palms, just one block east of the action on York Boulevard in Highland Park, sits this two-bedroom Spanish-style bungalow.

Since it was built in 1935, it “has been occupied by only two families who have taken great pride in maintaining its original beauty,” the listing says. Still intact are the original cabinet knobs, exposed wood beams, tiled fireplace, tray ceilings, and arched entryways. The well-cared for dwelling measures 1,268 square feet and holds just one bathroom—decked with cute cream and brown tile in a zigzag pattern.

The 5,211-square-foot lot holds a two-car garage, and the backyard is planted with mature fruit trees, grapevines, cactuses, and rosebushes.

Last sold nearly two decades ago in 2000 for $166,000, 4926 Meridian Street is now listed for $849,000.

The charming living room, which connects to a dining room, has a tiled fireplace and exposed wood means.
Checkered black and white tile and vintage cabinets in the kitchen.
One of two bedrooms, both with hardwood floors.
The 1,268-square-foot residence holds one (cute) bathroom.
The backyard is planted with cactuses and mature fruit trees.

Cute house. Always baffled by the choice of tile for a kitchen counter though.

How about that floor tile? Home Depot runs it on sale for .49 a square

The floor tile is cheap and ugly, but it’s functional. Tile countertops are the opposite of functional, even if you use fancy tile.

Cuuute home. But, yeah, the kitchen tile is hideous. I’d opt for an update without going whole-hog modern. And the bathroom … while I applaud the original feel of it, the tile there (brown???) is just so, so ugly. I’d actually keep it much the same, but replace it with black and mint tiles and update the shower door with a piece of clear, pivoting glass.

It’s ok despite the very cheap reno

Cute Spanish that deserves a sensitive remodel…but considering the price point probably won’t get what it needs.

Also needs central AC.

Loves it, the living room is my favorite.

It’s one block north, not east, of the action on York.

Tacos!?

I love both the kitchen and the bathroom tile.

Bathroom tile reminds me of Charlie Brown’s shirt.

Yep…

Both the front and back gardens are lovely.
