This Spanish Revival-inspired house in Los Feliz’s Franklin Hills neighborhood offers many of the currently cool home decor tropes—every wall is white; geometric bathroom tile; teal kitchen cabinets—in an undeniably pleasing way.
3831 Aloha Street opens to coved ceilings, arched doorways, and light wood floors. The whole 1931-built home has undergone a comprehensive restoration (down to the doorknobs and hardware) by design and development firm Habhouse.
Two of the home’s three bedrooms have access to outdoor space; the front bedroom’s terrace opens out to a large area on top of the garage and the master bedroom opens to a deck behind the house. The backyard also offers space for dining or a fire pit or both.
As the neighborhood’s name implies, Franklin Hills is wonderfully hilly, but the house’s excellent location means a walk down to Hyperion doesn’t feel like an alpine trek.
The house is listed for $1.65 million with Joey Kiralla and Michelle St. Clair of Sotheby’s International Realty.

This is very similar to the simulated Spanish Revival of a couple of days ago. See the black wrought iron railing in the dining room? That’s what’s left of your Spanish Revival charm

At least that house had a Spanish-style chandelier. This one has a baton chandelier & modern sconces in the LR, and a bullet chandelier in the DR. Clearly the owners wanted nothing to do with Mediterranean architecture or decor, which is why they went & bought a Spanish Revival house.

"Meticulously restored," my sweet aunt.
Someone wanted to live in a MCM house, and they flogged a Spanish Revival to death to get there.
It’s like marrying a person and then proceeding to nag them to become a completely different person. If sports-obsessed extrovert who loves to travel is what you really want, then don’t marry the introverted bookworm who doesn’t own a passport and isn’t interested in getting one.

Nothing says Flipper like this house. No one has lived here since the remodel.

I think the choices are just fine – clean and fresh. it probably didn’t have a lot of spanish revival going for it before the redo. I would recommend to anyone buying this house to figure out a way to get some cover/shade on the outdoor spaces – you’ll mostly be using them in the summer and you’ll bake. that is a whole lot of money for this house in that location but hey – good for them if they can get it. the party won’t last forever so make the money when you can

My mother once had an art teacher in design school who said it wasn’t a good idea to use names to describe colors because everyone’s idea of a given color name was different but damn, those kitchen cabinets are "navy", not "teal".
By Mickeymod on 12.14.19 2:22am
Interesting philosophy about color names, but I think "teal" is about the broadest color name of all. To me the kitchen cabinets ARE teal, but to you they’re navy. Red is another color name that covers a multitude of shades
I have to wonder how this design teacher went about describing different colors if we weren’t to use names. Perhaps each shade would have a universal number, so you might paint the living room "12", but the dining room would be a nice deep "27"

Looks very close to Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year – Classic Blue

In any case, look to see dozens of Flipper homes re-done with blue cabinets in 2020.

In 10 years we’ll all be saying, "If I see another blue kitchen I’m going to scream"

Already seeing them here, and in other markets, with either gold or brass hardware. It’s definitely a trend.

I’d say DARK-teal on the spectrum of Teal.
By subaruwrx on 12.16.19 10:54am
Interesting, those cabinets are a little dark for what I consider teal, but they’re definitely NOT navy. Way too much green in that blue to be navy.

Disappointing. Much busy work+faux interior design=Bland.

Under contract already! Congrats on a well done renovation and on the flip. The price should be around $550k higher than the seller paid a year ago. Not sure what improvements were made but there should be a nice profit even after closing costs. Staging is so important and nicely done here.

Habhouse does a lot of the flips we see featured here and although we may complain about the neutralization and blandness of flips that’s obviously what gets the job done and to turn a nice profit
Personally I like the teal/navy/classic blue kitchen

That dumb faucet over the stove that every upscale kitchen has to have! For the cook who frequently makes 100 gallons of soup at a time.
By enter ranting on 12.16.19 12:13pm
It’s for boiling 10lbs. of pasta at a time, now who’s going to pick up that boiling pot of pasta and carry it over to the sink to drain? Not me
By mrjim1 on 12.16.19 12:23pm
The faucet is for filling the pot. The sink is for draining the pot. So, in order to drain the pot, one would still have to carry the pot over to the sink. That’s why I’ve never understood those stupid faucets!
By RubyJackson on 12.16.19 10:28pm
Exactly! At some point somebody’s got to carry that big pot

It seems the author doesn’t understand the term "restored." Restoring a house to its 1930s roots would mean using all 1930s-period finishes, fixtures and colors, based on what had originally been used in this house. This house hasn’t been restored at all. It has been renovated.
By enter ranting on 12.16.19 12:18pm
Excellent point! Verbs and nouns. So important.
By BingoWest on 12.16.19 12:40pm
Unfortunately it is characteristic of many millennial writers to not understand that words have defined meanings and it isn’t up to the whim of the individual writer to assign definitions. Yes, this house was renovated not restored and the kitchen cabinets are decidedly NOT teal.

Yep we all know what we’re getting with LF$eann on Curbed too.
Endless questions, useless nonsensical comments and stupidity.

What color do you think they are? There seems to be a lot of options
