Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA ’hoods. We’ve found five homes and condos within $10,000 of today’s price: $850,000.

Let’s start our search this week in the harbor area, where this San Pedro ranch house offers classic midcentury style with views of the port. Built in 1958, the home was designed by architectural firm Joncich and Lusby. It has two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms, with 1,632 square feet of living space. The original wood floors and bathroom tile are intact. Sitting on a 5,735-square-foot lot, the house is asking $849,000.

This comfortable-looking 1950 residence sits on a hilly 5,456-square-foot lot in Highland Park. Inside are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with 945 square feet of living space. Featuring hardwood floors throughout, the home has an open floor plan, with a dining area separating the living room and the roomy kitchen. In front of the house is a two-car garage; behind is a back patio and room for a garden. Asking price is $859,000.

Sliding doors lead out to private balconies. Asking price is $848,000, with HOA dues of $470 per month.

Featuring 2,085 square feet of living space, the house also contains five bedrooms and three bathrooms. It sits on a 7,495-square-foot lot, with an attached garage and a swimming pool in the back. Glass sliding doors provide easy indoor-outdoor access. Asking price is $850,000.

North Hollywood, because pool, MCM and North Hollywood

The NoHo house is particularly well suited for aviation enthusiasts because it’s directly under the approach flight path for Burbank Airport.

Lol, I knew there had to be a catch, the houses I like are always in a flight path or under an off-ramp

Yep, me too. It’s like they have to appear better than the other homes in the photos, so when you show up in person you’re more willing to overlook the sound of an airplane overhead every 10-15 minutes

Nice job, Curbed! You really can find decent stuff well under a million. Note to buyers: check the sale history. If something turns over too fast too many times, there’s something there. I like the yellow Joncich toilet best of all. That thing’ll run til doomsday.
