Does this elegant Spanish-style home in Hancock Park make you think of the seamy world of organized crime and vice that lies beneath Los Angeles’s sun-soaked facade?

If so, that’s probably because of the major role it played in the noir thriller L.A. Confidential, in which it appeared as the house of ill-repute occupied by Veronica Lake-lookalike Lynn Bracken (played by Kim Basinger).

Built in 1923, the two-story residence was, per the listing, built by debonair architect and film producer Jack Donovan. In the 1990s, it was discovered by L.A. Confidential production designer Jeannine Oppewall, who outfitted the home with “sexy furniture” from Palm Springs.

Equipped with hardwood floors, arched windows, and a double-height living room, the 4,600-square-foot home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Other interior features include a tile-edged living room fireplace, access to an upper level balcony, a formal dining room that opens out to a side patio, and the dramatic staircase with wrought-iron bannister seen in the film.

The house sits on a 17,019-square-foot lot with multiple patios, a swimming pool, and a neatly manicured lawn.

Asking price is $3.5 million.

The kitchen was probably cutting edge in 1966.

Same with that bathroom, Yikes!

Looks like it’s from a completely different house.

my guess is ’56 based on the 24" wide oven

Needs a lot of work, no matter what our resident idiot says. Other then that a potentially beautiful home in Hancock Park might be worth the effort

17000 square feet offers a lot of value.

Ha, stagers put a Regency Style armless chair in that bathroom.

but don’t tighten the hinges on the vanity. that would be too much.

asking price is right on the money, but also a little high—it’s low..the ASKING PRICE.. is high…tee-hee giggles and hides

With no mention that two sides of the property border the Wilshire Country Club, with excellent views into the landscaped oasis.

That’s a significant omission.

great movie, love the scenes in this house. i think it’s beautiful but why, with a 17,000 sq foot lot is that pool so close to the house? i’d leave kitchen cabinets alone but different floor.

That is the detached garage with chauffeurs room and viewing tower. no clue why the garage has a tower.

It’s where the prisoners are kept. Duh.

Nice house and location. Incredibly poor and sloppy stagers.

Great potential, but it needs a LOT of work. Someone was a terrible steward of this house.
