A Canadian development team has proposed a 27-story mixed-use development with residential, retail, and offices in Chinatown, just around the corner from the neighborhood’s Gold Line rail stop.

The project comes from Vancouver-based Townline and Forme Development. An announcement from the developer says the structure would rise on what’s now a parking lot and a small retail center at 942 North Broadway. The retail center includes the East West Bank and a handful of storefronts.

Called Harmony, the high-rise would hold 178 residential units. The project’s city planning department filing indicates that the units will be rentals, with five units designated for very low-income households.

Harmony will also include four floors of office and retail space, and underground parking.

The project, designed by Chris Dikeakos Architects, would include landscape architecture by SWA Group. It’s expected to break ground in 2019.

This is not the first over-20-story structure planned in the neighborhood. A fancy 26-story tower designed by Chicago’s Studio Gang was proposed just two months ago for a site about four blocks from this one.
