After purchasing the Brady Bunch home in August, HGTV is moving forward with plans to remodel the iconic Studio City ranch house seen in nearly every episode of the 1970s sitcom.

The network announced Thursday that the home’s overhaul has officially begun, with six original cast members and some of HGTV’s most recognizable hosts gathering at the house to kick off renovation work.

According to a statement from HGTV, the network’s designers plan to add 2,000 square feet of living space to the two-bedroom home, nearly doubling its total floor space. The home’s interiors will be redone with a ’70s-style design in keeping with the show’s memorable aesthetic.

Though the exterior of the home was used in establishing shots throughout all five seasons of the series, its interiors were never seen in the show. The Brady’s memorable living room and brightly colored kitchen were sets designed specifically for the show.

“What’s so exciting about this project is that we are creating one of the most iconic homes from many of our viewers’ childhoods,” said HGTV senior vice president Loren Ruch in a statement.

The network paid $3.5 million for the house, outbidding a host of prospective buyers including NSYNC’s Lance Bass.

It’s not clear whether the finished product will be an exact replica of the original Brady house or a new design inspired by the television show, but viewers will be able to find out next year. The show is scheduled to premiere in September.

According to HGTV, on-screen talent involved in the project will include “Property Brothers” Drew and Jonathan Scott, Mina Starsiak, Karen Laine, Leanne and Steve Ford, Jasmine Roth, and Lara Spencer.

What are they going to do with it when it’s done?

Probably hire contractors to fix the problems created by that list of "on-screen talent".

Please, please make a interior copy of the interior used on the TV show.
Anything else wrecks the whole project.
Don’t forget the Jack and Jill bathroom between the boys and girls bedrooms.
That would NEVER work with teenagers but it’s fun to imagine.

Here you go…

Just one problem – the interior doesn’t fit into the exterior.

The set from that show has to be the most iconic tv set ever – we all vividly remember that living room and kitchen. Somehow they need to recreate that staircase. and the kitchen should be mostly orange but i suppose they could put a modern spin on it. the coolest would be to re-create the house completely but given who is working on it that isn’t the plan. otherwise they would just hire the talented set designers who re-created it for the movies that were done.

A multi-camera set is designed without one wall, which is where the cameras go. We never saw one whole wall of the dining room or kitchen, because they didn’t exist. This set could never be a real house. Look at the front. Where does that staircase go? There isn’t room for another floor where the stairs would be. And, on top of that, there was an attic, where Greg moved when he became a hippie.

hope they change or take away the completely wrong brick wall at sidewalk that was added much later, probably to deter tourists, it’s the wrong style

i expect a lot of beige, gray, brown and black.

If they plan to add 2000 sq feet to the house then the end product will NOT be an exact replica of the original house.

Can’t wait for the reclaimed wood, waterfall island, vessel sinks, gold hardware, bedroom chandeliers, and every other design cliche that HGTV is known for! This has to be one of the dumbest projects ever attempted.

If you want to walk around and see the inside of the Brady home just as it was on TV, but with the 4th wall added, so it feels like a real home, then check out this website. I did 3D renderings of the Brady home, showing views not possible on the show and then did a video walk-through tour. Enjoy! https://www.mockingbirdlane.design/bradybunchhome

Wow, you really made it look a lot better then it ever did on TV, nice

Ah, thank you so much!

Is Marcia there?

No, just no. I see an unfortunate barn door made from reclaimed wood paneling from the original family room.

They’d better hope the Studio City preservation yentas don’t stop them in their tracks.

Can’t wait, it’s that "floating" staircase that really got to me. What I wouldn’t give for one of those and an indoor planter!! Oh lordy.

This whole project sounds like a bad idea. It’s like re-doing Gone With The Wind, just leave it alone. I do not think that they will be able to achieve the nostalgia for the original set, in that house. I understand everyone liking the show, but that house has nothing to do with the set. God help us if the property brothers get in there and make it their heinous version of Hollywood Regency. I wish HGTV was more aspirational and not so low brow.

The actual house interior looks better than…the set
dont ruin it!
