Here’s a perfectly pleasant Spanish-style home in Silver Lake built in 1925, but updated quite a bit since then.
A few vintage-looking features remain, including wrought-iron light fixtures, arched entryways, rounded ceilings, and a tile-floored entryway.
Wide windows and French doors keep the common areas on the main floor well lit and provide access to one of multiple balconies. Like many other houses in the neighborhood, the tall house is built to take advantage of the views across the hills and into Griffith Park.
The four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home has 2,952 square feet in floor area and is built around an elegant central courtyard. Situated on a 5,083-square-foot lot, the property also features a two-car garage and a small backyard surrounded by a colorful array of vegetation.
Per the listing, the home’s separate lower level could serve as a one-bedroom unit, should buyers need a little assistance with the hefty mortgage payments.
Asking price is $1.595 million.

I live nearly next door – it’s a beautiful house, very light and airy when the French doors are open (lots of balconies). The separate apartment is actually pretty large, with a small kitchen and bath and views over the flat back yard (a miracle for a hill house). Really nice place that’s been updated thoughtfully, keeping the Spanish style intact. Quite a deal for so much square footage.

This is a nice house at a very fair asking price for the neighborhood. I’m sure this will sell quickly, likely by the end of the weekend. There is just no downside to Silver Lake these days. Its status as a beacon neighborhood means there will be, for the foreseeable future, a constant supply of aspirational buyers drawn from all over the world. Of course those looking for an equivalent/up and coming equivalent neighborhood at a comparative bargain will look to Eagle Rock.
