Handsome brick house with stellar views asks $2.5M in Silver Lake

Built in 1937, this stately brick home is unexpected in Silver Lake, where midcentury modern and Spanish-styles reign. It’s located on one of the windy, steep streets above the Silver Lake Reservoir, the main advantage of which is that it affords hilltop views from nearly every room from the kitchen to bedrooms.

The interior is stylishly contemporary with a kitchen outfitted with blue cabinets and subway tiles. Other features include a glossy fireplace, a curving staircase, multiple decks, and an expansive lower level with exposed rafters.

Last sold one year ago for $915,000, the property, which measures 6,690 square feet, is on the market now for $2.5 million.

The flippers have somehow managed to strip all charm from this beautiful old home.
Kudos.

Is it safe to live in a brick house in earthquake country? I have alway heard that brick houses can basically shatter and come tumbling down on you. There aren’t very many brick houses in Los Angeles for a good reason I imagine and I remember many brick chimneys came tumbling down during the Northridge earthquake. I’m sorry but I’m not sure I would feel comfortable raising my children in a brick house.
Other than that this house is well located…..

reasonable size lot but where is it?

Passed by while they were working on it. Beautiful home and amazing views but the price seems pretty steep. It’s right next to the Paramour Estate at the top of Micheltorena.

With the exception of a few features, the house feels somewhat soulless and bland. I like clean lines, modern simplicity, etc. but those interior photos left me rather bored.
