A few leasing options for the 1 percent

View as Map

With one of the most expensive rental markets in the nation, Los Angeles is becoming increasingly unaffordable for many residents. Perhaps it’s not surprising, then, that the homes at the very top of that rental market are likely unaffordable for nearly every resident.

We’ve rounded up the most opulent, extravagant, and, above all, expensive residences available for lease right now (sadly, none are eligible for rent control). Let’s take a look at what kind of amenities you might expect from, say, a $600,000 per month rental.

$600,000/month

The most expensive rental in the LA area may look familiar. It’s the place where sleazy film producer Jack Woltz awoke with a horse’s head in his bed in The Godfather. Called the Beverly House, the 19-bedroom mansion once housed actress Marion Davies and her paramour, William Randolph Hearst. JFK and Jackie Kennedy also honeymooned here. The house also features 29 bathrooms, two pools, a fitness room, and a snazzy Art Deco bar.

The four-bedroom main residence has 13,800 square feet of living space, while a separate 3,100-square-foot guest house is also on the property. Features include an enormous infinity pool, a home theater with 22 seats, and an in-house art gallery.

Here’s a Bel Air estate with nine bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, and 20,000 square feet of living space. The 15,500-square-foot residence has seven bedrooms and eight full bathrooms spread across a main house and detached guest home. Features include an infinity pool, game room, fitness center, media room, and spa, but the real selling—or, rather, renting—point is the view from the open, glass-walled living room.

$400,000/month

Another mansion with a bit of pedigree, this one was designed in the 1930s by the great Paul Williams, according to the listing. The 30,000-square-foot estate is situated on a three-acre lot in Holmby Hills. In addition to a whopping 17 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms, it includes amenities like a large pool with a corresponding pool house, long covered patios and gardens, and a cavernous 6,000-square-foot home theater.

The compound was built by notorious megamansion developer Mohamed Hadid and sits on 25 acres of property with vineyards and neatly landscaped grounds. The property includes a long reflecting pool, tennis court, and swimming pool. There’s also a 50-seat movie theater, bowling alley, and ballroom with a revolving dance floor and laser light system.
