View as Map

Now the sun is out nonstop, it might be a good time to get out. See a tree, feel the wind, narrowly avoid stepping in something—live! We're not suggesting that you abandon your computer to do this. Far from it. What we are suggesting is that you take it on the road, perhaps to Downtown? For some ideas about where to post up with a laptop, we have a list of the 13 best spots in DTLA with free Wi-Fi. (Points are listed roughly from east to west.)

Whether you want to be indoors or outdoors, this fancified place has it, plus ample seating. Just be sure to stake your claim before lunchtime.

The internet isn't the fastest here, but there are so many outlets and chairs that you won't even mind.

LA Cafè

This Historic Core spot is pumping the Wi-Fi 24 hours a day, for when you totally underestimated how long it would take you to do something.

Pershing Square

There are a few tables with umbrellas here, which is good because shade is hard to find here otherwise. Outlets, however, are harder to come by.

The Standard, Downtown LA

Working late? This rooftop Wi-Fi hotspot stays open until 1 a.m. most nights and has a killer view of the Downtown skyline.

Bottega Louie

It is probably the loudest place in Downtown, but a person could definitely work here for a while in the calm before the lunch or dinner rush, nursing a drink, and be pretty content (and productive!).

Plenty of seating, an entire food court of options nearby, and access to gelato put this Wi-Fi spot a little above the rest.

Ace Hotel Los Angeles

You might be too distracted by all the gorgeous architecture to work, but you will have the technical capabilities to be productive here. Rooftop, restaurant—it's all wired up. Ask for the password at the bar(s).
MOCA's MOCA Public offers free internet access. Ask at the ticket booth for the network password.

The Staples Center and Microsoft Square (formerly Nokia Plaza) both have free Wi-Fi for guests. (Instructions on how to sign on are here.) And when it's time to take a break from working, there's a movie theater and a whole host of distractions within walking distance.

The CalEdison

There's not an abundance of seating, but if you can snag a spot, hold onto it for the one-hour period in which connecting to the speedy Wi-Fi is free. You'll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful setting in which to work. The marble lobby, which is open to the public, is breathtaking.

Citigroup Center

The building's open-air, ground-floor plaza has decent and reliable Wi-Fi, and plenty of shaded sections to hide in when that strong California sun has you feeling almost like bacon in a pan. A great place to work in the mornings, when it's cool, before the library is open. There's a Starbucks in the plaza, so snacks and that vital caffeine fix are never far away.
