The LED-lit installation, "transforms with the sunset from vivid forms into illuminated landscapes" and rises to heights of up to 45 feet. The sculptures were intended to undulate along the coastline like a wave. But to us they just look like dongs.
Heading down to the pier anytime soon? Visitors will be treated to a brand new light show illuminating the Ferris wheel. The million-dollar light show is more energy-efficient and way more colorful.
A big celebration is planned for the venerable carousel house that first brought revelers to the Santa Monica Pier back in 1916. Festivities will include nickel rides on the carousel, photo ops, and potato chip sundaes.
Starting May 5 at 11 p.m., the Pacific Park ferris wheel will go dark as it undergoes a $1 million lighting upgrade. The ferris wheel itself will remain open during the duration of the project, albeit less spectacularly lit.
