Metro is getting WAY into bikes these days. Yesterday they opened up their first bike hub in El Monte and tomorrow they will unveil the design of their new and long-awaited bike share bikes for the system set to launch by mid-2016. A Metro staff report on the matter that will be introduced in a planning meeting on Wednesday (via Streetsblog LA) includes a photo of the new bikes.
Well, there will be no mistaking this bike for anything other than Metro property. A big to-do over advertising sunk a Los Angeles bike share program back in 2013, so Metro seems to be playing it safe by advertising the only brand it can trust: itself.
The program should finally be up and running in 2016 with 65-station pilot program. —Jeff Wattenhofer
