Pasadena has no shortage of Craftsman bungalows, but this one, located just east of the Arroyo Seco, is a particularly impressive example of the style.

It was built in 1907 as the personal residence of Frederick Grable, one part of design duo Grable and Austin, who oversaw construction of numerous bungalows at the height of the style’s popularity.

Per the listing, the house was expanded in the 1990s and is now quite spacious, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms spread across 3,700 square feet of floor space. In the older part of the home, an array of period details remain intact. These include original hardwood floors, built-in furniture and shelving, antique light fixtures, casement windows, and a stone fireplace in the living room.

French doors in the formal dining room lead out to a covered porch alongside the house, and small clerestory windows provide glimpses of the home’s overhanging exterior beams.

Situated on an 8,993-square-foot lot at 520 West California Boulevard, the home is fronted by a large garden area. In the back is a swimming pool and spa, along with a small, grassy lawn and a barbecue area.

Asking price is $2.195 million.
