Construction began about a year ago on North Hollywood’s NoHo West, a retail and residential compound planned for the site of the shuttered Laurel Plaza. Now, with less than a year to go before NoHo Plaza’s expected opening, we’ve checked in on the project to see how the 25-acre development is progressing.
Work on NoHo West is “in full swing,” says Scott Swanson, senior project manager for W.E. O’Neil, which is working on construction of the project.
Concrete work on the new eight-story parking structure is nearly finished, Swanson says. Roofs and exteriors walls on the retail buildings that will house a new theater and a new gym are finished. Landscaping and hardscape features like curbs and sidewalks got underway in January.
When complete, NoHo West will have 642 apartments, between 50 and 60 dining and shopping options, a Trader Joe’s, a gym, and a movie theater.
The Macy’s on-site will be converted into office space. Developers Merlone Geier Partners and GPI Companies have said they are hoping to move four to ten businesses into the building once it’s ready.
The project, designed by Stir Architecture, will also include about 2 acres of new green space, playgrounds, and an open area for public events.
NoHo West is expected to open in the fall.
