To say that a house—an inanimate object—possesses “heart” or “soul” is, admittedly, highly illogical. But then something like this sweet and friendly 1924 Storybook English cottage in Glendale will come along, and logic must step aside.

For starters, it doesn’t hurt that the home in question is located in the Verdugo Woodlands neighborhood, conjuring associations of woodland creatures out of Disney’s Snow White.

Adding to the 1,552-square-foot cottage’s fairy-tale charm is its hand-hewn front door with oversize wrought iron fittings, its beamed ceilings, peg and groove hardwood floors, and clinker brick fireplace replete with elaborate hand-carved inglenook. Other appealing attributes include French doors, casement windows, lovely original tile, and a good old-fashioned kitchen that a refurbished O’Keefe & Merritt stove would fit in quite nicely.

Surrounded by trees on a 10,226-square-foot hillside lot, the three-bedroom, two-bath residence also has a spacious back patio and a detached garage with laundry room.

According to public records, the property last traded hands in 1987 for $297,000. It’s now listed with Brad Lawrence of Sotheby’s at an asking price of $1.085 million. Open houses are scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Character details include peg and groove oak floors, French doors, vaulted beamed ceilings, and a clinker brick fireplace with hand-carved inglenook.
