The block-sized project set to be Netflix’s new Hollywood home (well, one of them) is nearing completion.
Called the Academy on Vine, the 3.5-acre project will include multiple buildings, including a 20-story tower with 193 residential units, plus office and retail space, all located just south of the ArcLight and Cinerama dome on Sunset Boulevard.
Previous estimates from developer Kilroy Realty Corporation pegged The Academy on Vine complex for completion in early 2020, and it looks to be running on time.
Construction crews are busy on the site, which takes up the entire block bounded by Vine Street, DeLongpre Avenue, Ivar Street, and Homewood Avenue. The facade of the tower looks to be about halfway done.
Netflix signed a lease for all of the development’s available office space—355,000 square feet across three buildings—last year.
The office space at Academy on Vince is not the first that Netflix has leased before construction is complete. Developer Hudson Pacific Properties announced in November that Netflix would also lease the whole 328,000-square-foot, 13-story Epic building on Sunset Boulevard, when it’s complete in 2020.
When both buildings open, Netflix will occupy more than 1 million square feet in Hollywood. The company already leases the prominent blue and white, 14-story Icon building right off the 101 Freeway and 92,000 square feet of an adjacent building called Cue. Both buildings are on the Sunset Bronson lot and owned by Hudson Pacific Properties.
