British-born midcentury architect Rex Lotery was known for his residential work, especially in tony Trousdale Estates, where he designed the house that Elvis and Priscilla Presley lived in shortly after they married.
This 1961 house in the same neighborhood is a fine example of why Lotery’s work is so valued. Sited on a nearly half-acre lot, the residence is fronted by a motor court and a “moat-like” water feature with pools that lead to the front door.
Steel beams and walls of glass bring the outdoors in, while tropical plants and ample landscaping offer privacy. Inside, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home features high ceilings, a step-down living area, a dramatic fireplace with floating hearth, and an updated kitchen and bathrooms.
Behind the roughly 4,500-square-foot house, the spacious backyard holds a pool, a fire pit, a sauna, and space to entertain.
1120 Maytor Place is listed for $14.8 million with Branden and Rayni Williams of the Williams and Williams Estates Group at Hilton and Hyland.
