At a busy intersection next to Sci-Arc and One Santa Fe, a five-building development named Aliso is gearing up for its opening. The apartment complex is scheduled to open in phases, with the first building coming online in August and the last expected in November, according to a representative for the developer, Fairfield Residential.

The complex at at 950 Third Street will hold 472 units—a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units, lofts, and penthouses—plus 23,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Toward the end of the year, residents will have access to amenities that include a pool, gym, rooftop deck, soundproof recording studio, and green-screen room.

Plenty of development is underway in the Arts District, but, thanks to its prominent location, Aliso stands out.

Legendary Development is also working on a project near the A+D Museum at Fourth and Colyton streets. That structure is designed to have office space cantilever over the existing museum and add courtyard space along Colyton Street.
