Curbed Comparisons: What $1,850 rents you near LA transit stops

Apartments near the Expo, Red, Blue, and Gold Lines, plus a spot near the Orange Line

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. In honor of Transportation Week, we've found five rentals within $100 of today’s price—$1,850—and close to a train station or an Orange Line stop.

Located about a half mile from the Expo Line’s Culver City station, this studio apartment in Palms has a full, galley-style kitchen, a balcony, on-site laundry, and a parking spot. It rents for $1,895.

Rent dollars stretch far in the Valley, as this two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in Lake Balboa shows. The second-floor apartment offers new carpet and flooring, central air conditioning, and laundry hookups, too. Located near the Balboa stop on the Orange Line, this spot rents for $1,849.

About a mile away from the Red Line’s Vermont/Sunset station, this 750-square-foot one-bedroom apartment is close to Barnsdall Park and all the cool Los Feliz destinations along Vermont. The apartment has hardwood floors, granite counters, and central air conditioning, plus a carport parking spot. Rent is $1,900.

Here’s a one-bedroom apartment a few blocks east of the Gold Line’s Filmore station. The top-floor Pasadena apartment in a complex of 12 units has a balcony, a newish kitchen, and, next door, a communal laundry area. The apartment comes with two parking spots, and rents for $1,750.

Conveniently located in Long Beach, near the Blue Line’s Pacific Avenue stop, this one-bedroom apartment offers central air conditioning, in-unit laundry, granite counters, and stainless steel appliances. It rents for $1,900.
